@sabbatical I have an operating hypothesis that many of the 'placebo' things are about oxytocin related trust behaviors reducing inflammation by way of brain-immune pathways that we are only just now uncovering.Lots of stuff we call 'placebo' seems to be mediated by something modifiable.

My thinking about this is the reason why I was unable to gain muscle wasn't the lack of exercise ( if anything exercise made me weaker), but poor immune function / metabolic function leading to cheap emergency patch jobs.Fixing my lipid function via the FMT reversed this.
