man being tall really makes it hard to hear some of the mumbly kids. I gotta bend all the way down. I remember being frustrated as a kid when adults couldn’t understand me - I felt like we spoke diff languages - but I wonder if they were just too far away lmao

each morning the teachers in this understaffed, overwhelmed special ed room (nonverbal autistic preschoolers) will complain about the admins, the parents, what they’re missing and what they weren’t told and each afternoon they are cradling and singing lullabies to the kids

it’s a culture that’s shared by other stressed-out care professions - nurses, EMTs. constantly ranting abt how the patients/kids are going to be a nightmare, this job is going to kill me and then being quite competent and caring when it matters

exactly this vibe (tank crew, after almost getting BTFO by a panzer) https://t.co/rJv1Ao6JUw

with all that’s in the news i have been feeling doomery abt human nature - intrusive thoughts in public places like, “in diff circumstances these normal people could be trying to kill each other” There is smth abt working with kids that is incredibly healing for this

today [karim] got stuck at the top of the slide. he pointed to his legs and said “boo boo!” and I tried to figure out if he had a cut. I looked over to [jenny], a more xp aide. she chuckled and came over. she started clapping and hyping him up. “let’s go karim! let’s go karim!”

I love the challenge of working with kids. I love when a kid says something out of pocket and I have no idea how to respond. I love learning from more xp teachers how to mediate when one kid lets a ball roll away but gets jealous when he sees other kids play with it I think /

Today [karim] was being oppositional and I loved dealing with it, and learning from the teacher how to deal with it. Gahdamn it was so good bro No karim u have to erase your whiteboard before we can play. Yes u can cry I know it’s hard. Yes we will sit here for 2h until you do.

this happened to me on my first day working at an elementary school. a little girl picked a dandelion and held it out to me with a big shy smile. my heart almost burst. the problem with being given a flower is that i never know how to save it. i kept it with me as long as i could https://t.co/Wm6P7M7JyD
