currently thinking about: -threading -hyperlinking -information architecture -project management -einstein's messy table -pg's "holding a program in one's head" -^similar quote from steve jobs -vgr's 'crucible effect' -da vinci's messy notebooks -worrydream's seeing spaces https://t.co/NPbQL8Xm1Z

- music, visual design, rhythm and harmony - language, vocabularies, improvised grammar - the pleasure of refactoring - "web design", where "web" = threads upon threads - road networks, fractal tree webs - theme park architecture - bottlenecks, plateaus - new ways of seeing https://t.co/CdogLDinJP

most of these thoughts and ideas are always simmering in the back of my mind, but I found myself compelled to lay them all out while going through a brief that a client sent me. I witnessed what my mind was doing with the info in front of it + I want to get even better at it https://t.co/otSlCuwUPQ

-everything that you don't understand appears to be a chaotic mess -the more deeply you understand a complex thing, the more beautiful becomes -everything complex is made up of relationships (of several classes) -to understand anything is to perceive relationships, patterns https://t.co/SIQ37x8e9V

When trying to make sense of a new confusing thing, I try to identify individual bits that I can verify as “likely true” and then use those as buoys / guiding lights https://t.co/oysxksTahI

Over time you start looking for simple true/false statements that you can then attempt to verify: - melanin is a variable that affects skin color - stratum lucidum is an additional layer of skin on palms and soles You want to disentangle the chain of causes and effects https://t.co/k8cQmwHamv

Everything is a bunch of other things. Take the thing, break it down into its constituent things, experiment, remix. Copy, reorder, distort, replicate. Fool around, play, amuse yourself https://t.co/o7sivMw5WX

The exhilarating thing about things is that they’re like other things. once you have a system for making sense of some things, you have a system for making sense of other things!! So over time things make more and more sense (... in a specific sense) https://t.co/JMnQ6MdlVn

Like... for eg, there’s a relationship between music (patterns in time) and visual art (patterns in space) and they have the same principles - contrast, rhythm, etc. Once you realise they’re the same thing, learning one thing means learning the corresponding thing simultaneously

When you realize that 5 different songs have the same chord progression https://t.co/rhEbTHdh5h

The separation turns out to have been an illusion!! And an illusion that was costly to maintain!! Because it takes more effort to remember 5 seemingly different things than 1 thing with 5 minor variations. But you have to see the pattern first before you can cut the knot https://t.co/NkyxMMKuZH

Everything is a remix, everything can be further remixed https://t.co/BiyUg6qMtL

so check this out, in ancient Greece there were these women who were really smart and really hot, and this lady Phryne was on trial for impiety – legend has it that she was so hot that when she bared her tits the gentlemen of the jury had no choice but to acquit cc @Aella_Girl https://t.co/GS8cQJqAP0

was also watching a DC documentary- Bob Kane described Batman as a remix of Da Vinci’s contraptions, a movie called The Bat, and the Mark of Zorro. He didn’t come up with the backstory etc, that was largely Bill Fingers’ contributions, uncredited for a long time until after death https://t.co/Apeqz0tB5s

@visakanv wow, hadn't seen that one. https://t.co/sYPHZEp6Iv completely changed my experience of daft punk I was first less impressed, but then after some reflection, more impressed my fav 🤯 https://t.co/AWSDzm3Rmj

@visakanv oh wow, this one has a ton of pieces https://t.co/KnBO2vhrOZ

@visakanv @mbabwahsingh https://t.co/QRVsZjwQiJ

@visakanv Visa, how far off is what you're getting at with this compared to, say, public Roam graphs? My intuition is that a public roam graph (where bullet points can't be edited once posted, say) is very similar to this general idea you're been riffing about

@visakanv wait wat, can anyone contribute to it? because if not, that's more what I was going for. *Collaborative* roam graphs seem to be an actual implementation of this style of chaotic, scatter-shot, we'll piece together the connections later-style of thinking
