Khruangbin's The Recital That Never Happened reminds me of palm ave float club (sensory deprivation tank place), where I first heard it, and it's just got this really serene, chill vibe. just listening to the song always mellows me out https://t.co/ZAbraslhzh

an interesting model to play with is thinking of everything as mood modifiers everything you read, listen to, touch, have around you – all of it is part of creating an aesthetic, a vibe, a mood for yourself I personally think it's good and cool to have a diverse mood collection https://t.co/OWajjvJ4m8

IMO, playing with moods, aesthetics and vibes is a sort of proxy or precursor to playing with ideas and worldviews, identities, self-concept. Depending on how you frame it, you could even say it’s fundamentally the same thing, or deeply intertwined https://t.co/RkVgmtjLvg

Trippy to think that there are probably threads and webs of neurons in our brains - like twitter threads - some more elaborate, comprehensive and intense than others, cascading and interconnected https://t.co/WU0zuLqUVS

I mean - it is known that brains are basically mega-webs of neurons, right - but what I find interesting to contemplate is that there are probably(?), maybe(?) disparate factions or subsets of neuron threads that typically only fire in separate, distinct “subroutines” https://t.co/V4Iydpyopp

For eg, let’s say we talk about music. The exhilarating thing about learning music is things like, discovering that 5 different songs, each with a different set of chords, all have the same chord *progression*. Ie they’re all *essentially* the same song https://t.co/uk6ybkdcNA

The separation turns out to have been an illusion!! And an illusion that was costly to maintain!! Because it takes more effort to remember 5 seemingly different things than 1 thing with 5 minor variations. But you have to see the pattern first before you can cut the knot https://t.co/NkyxMMKuZH

used to wonder if I should try to signal status, but have since realized that it's more fun (and probably more effective) to develop aesthetic refinement https://t.co/3NIhCVCjc4

I feel like I've reached a breakthrough/synthesis on this – rather than try to model existing status/class signifiers, which is tiresome, it's far more fun, interesting and exciting to develop + elevate your *own* aesthetics. Bowie, Prince, Hendrix, Manson, etc appreciated this https://t.co/FrOf2FqEXa
