There’s a little status counter in the back of all our heads. It evolved for a really good reason. It tracks how close we are to getting kicked out it the tribe. High-status: can get away with more. Low-status: just trying to hang on.

When you’re going through airport security, want to be small. You don’t want anyone to notice you. That’s what feeling low status feels like. Airport security mode . .

The way this shows up is - Collapsed awareness. Your awareness doesn’t include other people, theirs doesn’t include you. - Loss of spontaneity. More separation between thought and words. There’s checks. Crude jokes don’t get through, like they would for a high-status person.

- Loss of desire. This is the one that gets me. You don’t know what you want anymore. There’s a firewall, you’re trying so fucking hard to not feel resentment, dissonance with your natural spaciousness, and on. https://t.co/kVHHAqXUen

To effectively pretend to be a certain way, you have to really believe it, or be aware of it. This impedes any access you might have to how you actually feel. So you live in a fake world, a world “above”, and have no connection with the below. https://t.co/QJlEryFSzi

When you feel high-status, you see . . . clearly. Your field of vision is yours again. - Expanded awareness - Spontaneity - Deep connection with desire . .
