An interesting way to look at this as a problem of low protein intake is to explore biomarkers of muscle growth and compare it to protein intake.Under what conditions can you grow muscle with little protein intake? https://t.co/7NtIQOAQ9h

Realistically, soy-based products are the only vegan protein sources that come close to animal sources https://t.co/egeTKFZ2DY

Digging into this, I found out that some bacteria can make proteins in our gut, and in hibernating animals they recycle their fats into protein, gaining muscle while not eating.

It's fascinating. Do vegan body builders have gut bacteria that make proteins for them, or convert fats into nitrogens via urea recycling?https://t.co/1eLaT41KS9

Something interesting to me is how often vegans don't seem to get enough B12. Once the liver depletes, it seems to tank their health. But this doesn't seem true of all vegans, only western ones who don't supplement.https://t.co/AL0xx7vrcn

I have nothing against eating vegan/vegeterian. As far as I gather, if you eat well & avoid excess carbs, you are going to do fine. I actually introduce people to my favorite food tracking app by showing them how a vegan body builder uses it https://t.co/fisE1NHbMj

Something I am not looking forward to finding out is if having the gut biome and diet of a gorilla means I have to eat my own feces to get B12. Despite how radical I am in this space as a medicinal, its not something I"m willing to do.https://t.co/LWwRstR2Gb

@Mikehhatson @SavinTheBees 🤣 That gorilla be recycling his poop like a cecotrope, wild.

Currently I get my B12 thru animal sources, but I'd love to find a way to have my gut make it for me (without... uh... recycling it like a cow's)Could help a lot of people.https://t.co/7EiF3GASXj

@drkohilathas The B12 aspect is fascinating. Lots of disordres with gut health problems end up depleing B12 from the liver. Its also hard to get on a plant based diet in the west. This is likely the reason why my mom always went into a wheelchair when we went vegan.

I am eating a couple of cans of whole clams a day until I get sick of them. Also Mackerel and hopefully sardines.https://t.co/vrNR49I6w1 https://t.co/MkPXY5KRwf

The local Ocean State has a deal where you can buy food and get a store credit for the equivalent price. So all the canned clams I get this month are technically free. And Ollie's has a bunch of fish in stock currently. Going to be picking up tomorrow.

Something that may be overlooked in this space is that if you feed bacteria fiber, they can digest it and turn it into nitrogen. This may mean it take less protein overall if you go by raw fiber/protein measurements. Starved of fiber bacteria seem to use protein directly.

Likewise, if your gut makes a ton of SCFAs from fiber, you may have less over all DNA destruction and your cells may be less damaged overall, leading to more proportional protein to go toward muscles.https://t.co/bOjQVTw7YW

I don't think these thign are as cut and dry as we make them out to be.I say this having conquered my own Sarcopenia and my GF's type II diabetes... These balances in the gut matter.https://t.co/wPOwoEZeQh

Have you tried to cure type 2 diabetes by figuring out how to absorb uric acid from the blood and turn it into protein?https://t.co/MT6wmbPyxf

Most of my calories the past few months has been soy based gorilla buiscuits and some miso paste. We also get some tasty "Indialicous" vegan dishes that are full of spices, mixing it with basmati rice. https://t.co/0OMYGzVh3z

I've been experimenting lately to see if I can harbor acetate making microbes in my gut. Neutralizing small amounts of alcohol & turning it into acetate & eventually butryate should super-power my gut health. Butryate producers need lactate as well. https://t.co/cNUkQscgWg

My favorite is Surimi / imitation crab meat made from Pollock. Mineral profile makes it is basically the garlic of the sea. What people often don't understand is just because it's high in a heavy metal, doesn't' make it necessarily bioavailble. https://t.co/OWsY5j8837
