Ever notice how most ritual is 90% about establishing the container, and 10% contact with the mystery? At the very least, the old tales tell us, the adept needs to know the word that will call the summoned spirit back. The full cycle must be known before anything is summoned. Just as the Incan architect knew the full multi-thousand year picture of how water and stone would interact, before the first irrigation channel was dug.

human behaviour isn't really as simple as pulling the nail out of someone's head simple, one-time linear interventions it's helping an ecology produce a different pattern. it's changing the needs in the state that led to it putting a nail in their forehead every day
it's attuning to what purpose that served, what bigger pain it might have stopped, and helping that not happen it's helping them with the painful in between process where it just bleeds and feels worse for a while before it's better
it's helping them with the fear and anticipation of removing the, well, load-bearing nail in their forehead it's meeting all the realities of intervening in an ecology at once. this is why it takes more attunement than a simple mechanical fix
