Worth noting this has been going on since 2012 according to https://t.co/LkSupTRbRx (by way of https://t.co/x8GbhbMIlC from 2015)Even if this is just storing meta-data about an image's permissions in itself (for a DRM like system within site), can be leveraged by 3rd parties. https://t.co/5X6ygBkph2

My guess? Facebook trying to maintain distributed data consistency and image security by way of moving permission management closer to the point of origin. For a while there were ways to glean facebook's private images via a vulnerability in talked 2011: https://t.co/8OyBWs1I0c

Storing end-user content in CDNs is an inherent security vulnerability due to a wider attack surface. Tools that enable tracking to lock down data breeches could equally be used to perform large scale data tracking. This double edged sword shows up a lot. https://t.co/ZzTcQVfgiy

From where i'm standing, it is one of those situations where you're damned if you do, and damned if you don't.I believe the worry over tracking is perhaps being blown out of proportion, but at the same time I'm not going to say it isn't worth considering as a threat vector.

On a meta-narrative level. I see the knee-jerk reactions to tracking as a sort of crowd level anxiety manifesting itself as a sort of collective action. A manifestation of a social group's collective egregore speaking to the swarm. Translation:https://t.co/AuRYQATQtF

At it's core, problem of not being able to trust 3rd party CDNs, and to a certain extent not even members of your own organization (past a certain level of scale, due to egress of bad actors/"spies"), is fundamentally an issue Homomorphic encryption helps with. Doesn't exist yet.

There are two other angles here that are worth considering as well: ease of use (a subset accessibility), as well as data loss. And then there is the fact that you can always just take a screenshot or photograph of a locked down photo - effectively a side channel attack.

Is everyone excited about having ML sensors in your phone's camera chip that automatically refuse to take pictures of DRM protected/watermarked data? It's going to be illegal to at some point, by way of the precedent with scanners and dollar bills. https://t.co/OwTLR8EoNF

"There are, suddenly, numbers that we aren't allowed to write down on the Internet, programs we're not allowed to publish, and all it takes to make legitimate material disappear from the Internet is the mere accusation of copyright infringement. "https://t.co/1zrddsk8sR

Did you know the font on the united states dollar bill is illegal to reproduce? It's funny as heck to hear about the strength of the US dollar when learning about how much money is locked up on accounting sheets within banks. https://t.co/5cAKJsKew2

Subtweeting about the stability of the USD:"Unlike most stablecoins, though, Libra isn’t pegged to one specific currency. Libra is pegged to a group of “of low-volatility assets, including bank deposits and government securities” in multiple currencies." https://t.co/F1utqeX0FX

Then we have this really interesting problem where, under the right circumstances, being able to counterfeit money actually increases the likelyhood that government backed & controlled cryptocurrencies become the stronger form of tender.Something something mark of the beast 🤡

The wallet wars of the early 2000s.What I Think is happening? Banks and Credit Card companies here in the west are competing to gain total control over the american financial markets by way of copy'ing what is happening with tencent's wallet system in the east.

But in the midst of this we are seeing smaller islands of quasi-political corporate hybrids trying to build out their own market platforms.https://t.co/kJrJQ0FVDg

I hope I'm wrong. Maybe there is something I'm missing?https://t.co/QxPJkWOjYY

I've been thinking about this idea a lot: https://t.co/G34MzEjoJY

in a complex social system, there can be a conspiracy without conspirators the emergent behavior of a system sometimes looks like a highly coordinated conspiracy, even if no one is actually pulling strings at the top we don’t have good language to talk about this phenomenon

I think we live in a world that is far more complex than we realize.https://t.co/br697oO4nP

There's a thread of ideas around decentralized 'smart-mobs' or 'Global Guerrillas'.I wonder how scalable this meta-phenomena is. Does it apply to larger collectins of organizations? Could stuff like Libra be a 'semi-leaderless' organization? A phenomena?https://t.co/omZ94YyFkA

We tend to look at the world from the perspective of how our connectivity paradigm is affecting individuals/tribes. But few seem to be paying attention to how this is shifting large scale movements at level of the multinational conglomerate or state actor.https://t.co/RWKVj5OYQA

What is an egregore? Asking for a friend.https://t.co/BFnw3daZos

I can only glimpse at this space of ideas.https://t.co/Qpgh7jsPea

@lovecryption Dropping Conspiracy theory adjacent ideas like that that can help get them to trust you. It works really well to shoot down some of their "this is the mark of the beast" stuff. You can point out how that is more likely to be done via hosted blockchain legislation.

If autistic kids had a chip, it might mean police won't shoot them if they act out. Children like to fidget and autistic kids often will rip the armband off, donchaknow. Think of the children.🙄https://t.co/YI98ZRAcZFThis article is from 2013 btw.https://t.co/mUsNOV8JbI https://t.co/66aG5InOgL

It would be really useful if everyone had a health tracking tool that the wear all the time. Like on their wrist. And if you could pay for things with it on a state-sponsored digital currency, we could even police people's smoking habits!https://t.co/ZbhCkCYNI2

"My Administration places the highest urgency on research and development efforts into the potential design and deployment options of a United States CBDC," [2022]https://t.co/3IvI1BA2FG

I'm paying attention to the anti-CBDC bill my self.https://t.co/5Za3vbm0ICThere's a trick here.https://t.co/zFWb1BaR71 https://t.co/saWNDG2p35

The trick? This bill is designed to appear like it is banning them outright, but it really only prevents the Federal Reserve from doing it on their own. This does not stop congress from pulling one over on us.https://t.co/qsnSoyT6Ra https://t.co/pgGcqFRkP7

It's just preventing the Feds from owning the CBDC. It's a power play.> "In a speech to the House of Representatives, Emmer expressed concern that the administration is “itching to trade Americans’ right to privacy for a CCP-style surveillance tool.”https://t.co/1hCcOXxLFg

The real win? Oklahoma's OK HB3594:> Under the bill, Oklahoma bans restricting or outlawing the use “or the self-custody of digital assets using a self-hosted wallet or a hardware wallet,” a page for the bill said.https://t.co/5Ar4XaP8CC
