i didn't realise this, but we live in the stone age. except our stones are quartz and silicon and live in our pockets humanity has never quite escaped stone. the various ages of european pre-history, the stone age, bronze age, iron age, and now, the silicon age, all stone ages

all this is directly paraphrasing from an episode called Inanimate Objects Aren't Inanimate (Or Objects) from The Emerald podcast https://t.co/d0GHoHv96r https://t.co/hFSCltocZN

animists have known for centuries how to deal with intelligences more powerful than them, instantiated in bodies different than them https://t.co/5gBz7PDcz2

now that once again, we are confronted by stones that talk to us, mesmerise us, that we keep so close to us in our pockets, and hearts, we can acknowledge with honesty the human need for our relationship with a matrix of animacy, of stone https://t.co/0mM11mXQfg

i know “addiction” is the mainstream, andrew huberman, overton window frame for our relationship with our phones, but it so impoverished humans have a need for trance. phones offer that. humans have a need to plug into shared consciousness. social media offers that
