this comic about the hole is sort of right but also completely wrong. you aren't born with the hole, it is supposed to be filled with love, and it is possible to actually fill it instead of giving up https://t.co/MpIgtej83F

preconquest consciousness is a description of what happens in a society of people that never has the hole https://t.co/d53OCKu7lb https://t.co/MDLHnKI4QJ

you can sort of glimpse what it's like to not have the hole on MDMA but by default it doesn't last. need to actually do some healing work while the MDMA is there to facilitate it. resurfacing painful memories, talking to yourself, etc. generally giving yourself what you need

ideal parent figure protocol (IPFP) is the most directly hole-filling therapy modality i know of. supposedly you aren't supposed to administer it to yourself though, idk https://t.co/mWDu06QlLJ

3. ideal parent figure protocol (IPFP). this stuff is so powerful i'm often scared to do it. i barely did a tiny bit of it awhile back and it made like 30% of my anxious attachment relax. i'm dipping back into it more now and it's amazing https://t.co/po3PoyUvBD

@m_ashcroft dan brown (the creator) apparently ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ https://t.co/ULqLjOsLGu

@m_ashcroft maybe partly gatekeeping and maybe partly like... i think if you've been deprived enough it just wouldn't occur to you what actual care looks like so you just might not imagine anything that's even close. but i think you can make up for this with fiction and stuff

anodea judith's suggestions for working with the bottom four chakras are also probably highly relevant https://t.co/PGWmIxJVT1

richard schwartz calls the hole "the empty self" and claims it is specifically the result of american society becoming worse at raising children after WWII https://t.co/gZ5I32yQVV

"The result is the empty self, “a self that experiences a significant absence of community, tradition, and shared meaning.... a self that embodies the absences, loneliness, and disappointments of life as a chronic, undifferentiated emotional hunger” (p. 79)." https://t.co/xQXUq5CZjG

the dalai lama doesn't know what the hole is > the Dalai Lama tilted his head, his eyes narrowed in confusion. “Self-hatred?” he repeated in English. “What is that?” https://t.co/ATb2EfwPuf

amazing, some sweet sweet empiricism https://t.co/4nV1z0qgal

some useful nuance here https://t.co/0hzeU4dgpK

this is tricky stuff to talk about because 1) talking about it shapes how you relate to it and you may not want to relate to it the way the concepts i'm using here imply, this is finger-pointing-at-the-moon type territory, ignore all the specific words if they aren't helpful

and 2) roughly the way cult leaders work is that, either explicitly or through vibes, they attempt to promise to you that they and *only* they can fill the hole (so they need to find people who have gigantic holes to exploit). so the hole can become a tool to control people

so i figure that as a general defusing-cults strategy i can try to make information about the hole and what to do with it publicly available from multiple sources. it doesn't have to be esoteric knowledge you have to fuck some manipulative asshole to acquire

here's an entire book about how cult leaders use the hole to manipulate people. this is the sort of thing i wish i'd known even existed, before https://t.co/eDYRorEZwy

here's another book which is also about a cult but it's a personal story and probably easier to read. the other book i've only read the first few pages of but this one was a page-turner. really well-written, very relevant to my life https://t.co/fGI0hS9Ndk

alternative? somehow secretly compatible? take: https://t.co/0JVELdes5D
