All your worst tweets propagate to 'friends of friends" are more likely than not all your bad tweets no one engaged with. How can we weaponize this? Stay off of twitter for a few days, then only post when your followers are less active. Your ideas spread by engagement algorithm. https://t.co/7y6udTyOeq

I've been gaming the "likes are stochastic retweets" for a while now.Your friends of friends are getting fed my ideas just by you following me. I am parasiting off of ranking & engagement systems built to make brand managers feel like they matter.https://t.co/exteoBwP3t

How many of your friends turn off the ranking system? How may of your followers use twitter with custom clients? How many are just being fed my content because the defaults are engineered around maximizing DAUs and other gamable health metrics?

GOOD JOB!https://t.co/yrrmT6MELf

I find people who I want to to be on their radar, figure out when their feed is less likely to be populated. This is the time twitter's ranking system is most likely to feed them non-linear content. I then aim to get followed by who they follow so my tweets show up in their feed.

Protesting the lack of control, and the defaults set to garner engagement."What does the want of an unfiltered linear feed mean? What are people really asking for when they ask for that? What pain are they solving for when they make this request?"https://t.co/WRG2JZbROl

My GF's twitter notifs have like 400 "incase you missed it" style tweets in them because she didn't log on for a while. Spent a few hours reverse engineering why and when they happened. In twitter's attempt to avoid user churn by feeding newbies addicting content, I spread.

In some delicious irony, she doesn't use notifications because it's absolutely trash for her. Literally just ignores both moments and notifications. She started using twitter again to follow people she cares about. But twitter is constantly trying to get her to follow others.

Everybody I've introduced to twitter thinks it's trash and stopped coming. So I am acting as vector of insight porn for newbs in hopes that they'll follow people like @visakanv or @desantis & bootstrap a network of people using twitter as external brain. https://t.co/pEmup2hfol

Defaults matter."Knowing when and why defaults work highlights the importance of actively, rather than passively, considering and applying choice-architecture tools."https://t.co/0yNrwbw6sy

Mimetic Rivalry is a hell of a drug.https://t.co/jLPTIAi3zv

Remember when twitter chose to change⭐️(favorite) into ❤️(like) and regular users were saying that this change is going to cause confusion in the userbase? Then started showing 'likes' in feed to boost engagement. And now everyone is mad?Me neither.https://t.co/wPZElzayuM

Fun fact, some of the browsers on the market literally call their bookmarks "favorites". The use of the term 'favorite' for the old ⭐️feature was likely an offshoot of people using twtr on phones and not in a browser. Early twitter even ran entirely via SMS if I recall correctly.

And if you're thinking to your self "but hey, twitter added a bookmark feature!"That feature doesn't work across all platforms. I can't even add a bookmark on desktop or tweetdeck. There is a link on my left that shows me bookmarks. Had no idea it was usable only on mobile.

Has anyone successfully gamed this?Like, what would happen if say, an entire group of well connected people suddenly started following a bunch of questionable content so it gets surfaced into their follower's feeds?https://t.co/oCGct9VOGB

Mind you I know we can hide this stuff from our own timeline. but the problem is that the Defaults are questionable and very few using this site change them, much realize you can. They finally stopped swapping the home timeline on me. https://t.co/ED12MAnh43

Remember folks. The algorithmic timeline exists because it is impossible to view all the status updates of all the people you follow, so it gives people a highlights view. Please ignore the fact that it's suggesting people you don't follow.https://t.co/7y6udTyOeq

I only use twitter via this search.https://t.co/CVNBz77qgfhttps://t.co/mrmJ3U8fmm

I hope to see an open source twitter algorithm feed.https://t.co/LqEAifHLEa

Double your follower count with this one weird trick.https://t.co/tpYABBrIGU

I don't know about you, but I've noticed most of these tweets are about stuff that I react negatively. This is why twitter has felt so hostile to me and why I don't like it here. Its algorithms are literally showing me stuff that I don't want to see by people I don't follow.

It wasn't designed to do this, but I weaponized it anyway. I doubled by following count because I figured out how to get in other people's feed.https://t.co/gJXMlrPRvA

I spend my time reverse engineering life itself, you think figuring out how an algorithm works is hard?https://t.co/Clo9HOhfGJ

Seeing the UI change on a per-widget basis makes me think it's being managed by two different teams internally. I assume twitter hires great people and this is a structural problem + symptom of "Conway's Law". But it could be that they are just incompetent. Hard to say.

The algorithm is just a filter to human behavior. How much of the mythical algorithm is actually just people reading into human behavior norms?Shitpost Symphony.https://t.co/nAlWMhFHm5

Every tweets written to my account has been made by me, a real person. For years. I even stopped using Buffer and other tools. There's something magical about being yourself. https://t.co/qUQutMYoXj

@MMMalign Learning about clowns now."Pochinko taught clowning as a sort of "reverse therapy", in which instead of ridding oneself of anxieties, the clown performer leans into their own insecurities and foibles in order to package them as comedy." https://t.co/xLjkCHlw3G

The fun thing about the game I am playing with myself is that even if I don't attract people to my account that I am targeting, I get even cooler people like Grimezsz or pmarca to follow me.https://t.co/EUJ7jReBYc

The best thing I ever did was stop caring about social approval.https://t.co/I7xxjEYFRY
