Are you interested in RESEARCH? Do you like POTATOES? Do you want to EAT NOTHING BUT POTATOES FOR 4 WEEKS AND SEE WHAT HAPPENS TO YOUR MIND AND BODY????? π₯π₯π₯ If so, this is the blog post for you! Recruiting now for potato diet. Please RT! https://t.co/jsrJofUW9Z

Ok why potato diet? It may be counterintuitive, but all the stories say that the potato diet is really easy. It's certainly simple β no weighing or measuring, just potato, as much potato as you want. And case studies suggest it's wildly effective. https://t.co/cYFubSwSYp

In 2010, Chris Voigt, the Executive Director of the Washington State Potato Commission, ate nothing but 20 plain potatoes (and a small amount of cooking oil) for 60 days straight, and lost 21 pounds. He described it as being pretty easy. https://t.co/YIYXiKQule

Andrew Taylor is an Australian man who did an all-potato diet for a full year. He started at 334 pounds and he lost 117 pounds over the course of his βSpud Fit Challenge.β βI feel amazing and incredible! ... I'm full of energy, I have better mental clarity and focus.β https://t.co/AunXg1dwDa

Penn Jillette, of the famous magician duo Penn & Teller, lost over 100 lbs, down from βprobably over 340β, on a diet that started with a 2-week period of nothing but potatoes. https://t.co/98X9ZweqjD

In the spirit of self-experimentation, one of us is currently on day 11 of the all-potato diet. Sure enough, it's been comically easy. No cravings and no willpower required. The hardest part is the logistics of preparing that many potatoes every single day. https://t.co/x8wzPWdbzE

If you are interested, please consider giving it a shot! Instructions to sign up are on the blog post. And if you think this is a good / not entirely crazy idea, please tell your friends! https://t.co/kBkmYbKsog

Update from the self-experimentation trenches: Tried nothing but baked potatoes, no oil, and only a tiny bit of seasoning for the last two days. Still bizarrely, laughably easy to keep up with the diet. Feeling much more energetic, have lost a bit of weight.

@mold_time potato diet is also consistent with the LA/torpor theory as well btw: https://t.co/NwzPP4JRzn (most interesting idea is that one could potentially deplete excess LA stores in 2-3 months as opposed to the 6+ year timeframe people usually talk about)

@dschorno For better and for worse, potato diet working is consistent with a lot of theories. But if it DOES work reliably, that gives us a great starting point and we will have a lot of fun teasing apart the potential explanations

nota bene https://t.co/HpINJfUUUH

@mold_time @iwelsh only thing is i would say to normalize results you should ask ppl walk at least 1 mile a day, maybe 1.5, and track it, (and maybe other activity) so that you have that basic indicator of activity.

@mold_time @iwelsh *addendum; olive oil. don't make them use seed oils. standardize on extra virgin first press and you'll be able to factor that seed oil thing out completely. spices and herbs and salt are fine.

@DanielleFong @iwelsh https://t.co/EI0svgxki2

@DanielleFong @iwelsh We're trying the simplest possible design to try to get the largest sample size, especially since the anecdotes all suggest the effect size is huge. If it works, there will be lots of time to do more controlled studies as followups!

@mold_time @iwelsh understand that tradeoff, but would urge you to reconsider; personally did a (modified, light) version of this diet and the type of oil / preparation, and exercise made a significant difference, so i would still bias toward capturing data if you can. gather whatever you can

Further considerations for those trying the diet: https://t.co/Aa7PhBWTEg

@mold_time @eigenrobot doesn't this sound like (formerly big, now long) yud? https://t.co/Al2OjY7WlD

@mold_time That sounds yummy.https://t.co/nh6XPTYmCy

@mold_time So many uses for potate https://t.co/pk1SxwKFcwFun fact: if you soak them over night the water is loaded with potassium, which can save for drinking after a hangover.

@mold_time There are many potatehttps://t.co/jd83XKdKvL

@mold_time Highly recommend bookhttps://t.co/4IGw0dXfvj

"He published this book at the age of 75, in the year of 1949. One of the reviews from 1949 describes this book as "unusual and vastly interesting book which took nine years to write, and a lifetime to prepare" combining genetics, history, and archaeology"https://t.co/j1rmzxNjDe

@mold_time Other neat ideas in that thread too. https://t.co/mPo1hgOLdN

Whoa"The potato was used as a natural remedy in traditional medicine for centuries before it was eaten as a food. A substance in the common potato, the investigators found, prevents invading bacteria from latching onto vulnerable cells in the human body"https://t.co/45AL1hpwsF

@mold_time Next can you try eggs? https://t.co/nQ7jz3IuEx

@mold_time I'd choose IBD/IBS and maybe diabetes type II.My thinking is it would be working to heal intestinal lining in a similar way to how the burn victims heal their skin. May work especially well w/ people who are more likely to have TRPM8 mutations (autistic)https://t.co/el7ZwbQy9k

@JoshRainerGold When I fix my immune system, I suddenly start feeling pressure in my gut. I think its because shifting my immune system leads to increased Testosterone production and there is some kind of feedback happening there as Testosterone is a TRPM8 agonist.

@mold_time Make sure they are not hard-boiled or pre-cooked tho, that can cause issues :(https://t.co/X9C84Tv3Wu

So apparently Almark Foods (they make "Eggland's best") has done a voluntary recall on hard-boiled eggs due to A Listeria Monocytogenes contamination they found in some. These show up in a ton of egg based products. It thrives while chilled.https://t.co/u2tbr2SOF7
