Ok why potato diet? It may be counterintuitive, but all the stories say that the potato diet is really easy. It's certainly simple β€” no weighing or measuring, just potato, as much potato as you want. And case studies suggest it's wildly effective. https://t.co/cYFubSwSYp

In 2010, Chris Voigt, the Executive Director of the Washington State Potato Commission, ate nothing but 20 plain potatoes (and a small amount of cooking oil) for 60 days straight, and lost 21 pounds. He described it as being pretty easy. https://t.co/YIYXiKQule

In the spirit of self-experimentation, one of us is currently on day 11 of the all-potato diet. Sure enough, it's been comically easy. No cravings and no willpower required. The hardest part is the logistics of preparing that many potatoes every single day. https://t.co/x8wzPWdbzE

Update from the self-experimentation trenches: Tried nothing but baked potatoes, no oil, and only a tiny bit of seasoning for the last two days. Still bizarrely, laughably easy to keep up with the diet. Feeling much more energetic, have lost a bit of weight.

Just spitballing here, but if the mechanism is potassium, "not much salt" might make more of a difference than "no oil"

@mold_time potato diet is also consistent with the LA/torpor theory as well btw: https://t.co/NwzPP4JRzn (most interesting idea is that one could potentially deplete excess LA stores in 2-3 months as opposed to the 6+ year timeframe people usually talk about)

@dschorno For better and for worse, potato diet working is consistent with a lot of theories. But if it DOES work reliably, that gives us a great starting point and we will have a lot of fun teasing apart the potential explanations

@mold_time @iwelsh only thing is i would say to normalize results you should ask ppl walk at least 1 mile a day, maybe 1.5, and track it, (and maybe other activity) so that you have that basic indicator of activity.

@mold_time @iwelsh *addendum; olive oil. don't make them use seed oils. standardize on extra virgin first press and you'll be able to factor that seed oil thing out completely. spices and herbs and salt are fine.

@DanielleFong @iwelsh We're trying the simplest possible design to try to get the largest sample size, especially since the anecdotes all suggest the effect size is huge. If it works, there will be lots of time to do more controlled studies as followups!

@mold_time @iwelsh understand that tradeoff, but would urge you to reconsider; personally did a (modified, light) version of this diet and the type of oil / preparation, and exercise made a significant difference, so i would still bias toward capturing data if you can. gather whatever you can

@mold_time I'd choose IBD/IBS and maybe diabetes type II.My thinking is it would be working to heal intestinal lining in a similar way to how the burn victims heal their skin. May work especially well w/ people who are more likely to have TRPM8 mutations (autistic)https://t.co/el7ZwbQy9k

@JoshRainerGold When I fix my immune system, I suddenly start feeling pressure in my gut. I think its because shifting my immune system leads to increased Testosterone production and there is some kind of feedback happening there as Testosterone is a TRPM8 agonist.

So apparently Almark Foods (they make "Eggland's best") has done a voluntary recall on hard-boiled eggs due to A Listeria Monocytogenes contamination they found in some. These show up in a ton of egg based products. It thrives while chilled.https://t.co/u2tbr2SOF7
