hmmmm it took me 12 months to get the first $100k from my course it won’t hit $400k in 10 months unless I Do Things, and I’m not optimising for revenue at all*, but it makes me wonder about how I want to navigate this *just look at the ‘copy’ on my ‘sales page’ lol https://t.co/9CwgQpmHH7

I guess I'm worried that doing things explicitly to increase sales might mean behaving in ways that changes people's impression of me but that discounts an enormous amount of low hanging fruit that I could address that would probably at least 2x sales and no one would notice

but also more money means more sales (duh) which means more people take my course which is what I want? like, that's unambiguously good from my perspective so the fear is not revenue chart going up and to the right, it's the process

oh wait this is an Alexander Technique thing lol I am scared that I will 'end-gain' and lose sight of the 'means whereby' i.e. I am worried I will make the goal of making more money more important than the methods I take to get there when I want it to be the opposite

so sure, I intend to move in the direction where my course has made a total $400k by the end of 2022, why not but I don't want that to become more important than being fully available to choose any route to get there, which includes being free to choose any other goal if I want

@m_ashcroft I just made you at least $10,000 https://t.co/b5RJeVm398

@m_ashcroft yea so just basically a fractal of things like that throughout the whole thing, is visa-as-a-service. truly it's free money and you won't even change anything about who you are. lemme put together a quick doc with other smaller suggests/observations

@m_ashcroft michael you do not even tell people what AT is on the start here page you know where you do say it? on your personal about page here is another $20,000 you're welcome my god https://t.co/LuIfjHkPWI

@m_ashcroft take your "What is AT" page, open it in a tab next to the "Start Here" page, and weave in all of the most interesting, exciting, compelling things into the Start Here page. you might be thinking "but people can click to learn more": no. like 50-90% of them will get distracted https://t.co/QRthjDMpmE

@goblinodds @QiaochuYuan @m_ashcroft I do intend to do this for everyone around here who wants it. I will level up everybody's marketing/positioning, everyone will make 10x more money, and then we will fund the golden age https://t.co/eOS4X1HIk5

@goblinodds @QiaochuYuan @m_ashcroft so there are actually several different "spheres of vv", and the marketing/positioning one is the one I slow-play the most, bc I don't want to attract smarmy grifters and $-chasers. the FAN and Introspect stuff is to get the right ppl in the door ...i shd also update my mkt blog

@m_ashcroft yea you don't need to be super rah-rah aggressive bold and caps about this stuff. really just go over the start here page from time to time pretending you don't know anything about this michael guy or AT and ask "but so what? why do I care?" at every line

@m_ashcroft this ad by charles atlas is still one of the GOATs the next $200,000 worth of copy update will be to add some detail about re: "chump" – you want to articulate what your clients typically struggle with, address their objections/uncertainties, etc. capture the emotional state esp https://t.co/Zgdo49XAZb

@m_ashcroft getting people to discuss their issues and the difficulties/pains of their starting conditions can be a really lovely experience too, humanizing, there may be tears. nobody expects this from their marketing consultant

@visakanv @m_ashcroft First thoughts that came to mind re why I'm going through the course:I can go through life on autopilot, trapped in my head, and make careless mistakes as a result. The idea of interrupting habitual behaviors that don't suit me but I can't seem to shake was a big driver.

@visakanv @m_ashcroft But this may be a good fit for a feedback survey with course participants, which it seems like you now have a lot of! If you have questions you wanna ask them, I can spin up a quick GT form for you.

@RobertHaisfield @m_ashcroft idk if you're doing a/b testing or anything but this is another banger. It's so good my god you have to use it somewhere https://t.co/2YLCDmwZi0

@m_ashcroft @RobertHaisfield tbh i myself never really respected a/b testing, like i was asked to do it, but i only liked it when the results followed what I wanted, or if I didn't have strong feelings one way or another. sometimes the results would be bad for my preferred copy but I would be adamant anyway

common assumption is that marketing is about putting a false veneer onto lousy things. some people *do* do that, and it leads to ugly, highly visible failures far more interesting and satisfying to look for good things that have lousy veneers, and just remove the veneer
