and if staying up till 4am is the problem, creating a smooth gradient to “it’s ok and fine to sleep now” is part of the solution

realised i just wasn’t . . . “expecting” in some way, the little period of time where i get off my phone and try to sleep, to be there, or to be meaningful “things are already fucked, im already behind, so what does it matter now” ofc the body is unresponsive to those gradients https://t.co/phI7jLiw8g

Our progress bars are broken. Sitting there, just mentally prepping to nail that difficult task—that too is work, and it too must happen. Noticing it as work and allowing it to be allows smooth and steady progress bar completion.

what if sleeping now was meaningful? not just “wish to sleep” → “boom, asleep,” but the part in between. trying to sleep too

creating an experience of life where the next actions are what feel salient is the job https://t.co/sAWus6S4wq

this is one of those transformative tweets since i saw it—the idea of maintaining your local sense of agency, and that as something up to you—ive felt freed in every moment, i can come from an appropriate sense of local agency https://t.co/NktQR5KZxd

thing is: - scary can be fine when it’s meaningful (not meaningful on its own can be fine if not scary

but when i judge myself for not being asleep and think its existentially bad, and also don’t allow for trying to be asleep to be meaningful, . . . it doesn’t feel so good

no wonder i try to short-circuit or jump the process between “want to sleep” and “asleep” with my phone https://t.co/NkdPilUwr7

there’s no reason to move through the emotion part of creating smooth gradients is continuing to be in touch with the thing that makes even trying meaningful it’s the bravery, the honourability to feel through the fear
