"everyone agrees that X is bad, we just don't agree on what X is" THAT MEANS PEOPLE DON'T AGREE THAT X IS BAD IN ANY MEANINGFUL SENSE https://t.co/DVhLhJVKY6

sorry, what I meant to say was something like: the straightforward meanings of "everyone agrees" are untenable, and if we investigated what people actually meant by "everyone agrees X is bad" we'd notice something incredibly fucky is going on

so what does "everyone agrees X is bad" mean? people are in agreement that the word "coercion" is a label for a decision rule who's behavioral consequences are "punish" this is agreement about how a *word* fits into a norm landscape, not a *concept* https://t.co/x6op4fVFRF

@unseenhorizons like, say "everyone agrees that Dave is bad". If we aren't all talking about the same Dave, it's not the case that we all agree that Dave is bad. Diff Dave's are dissimilar enough that any semblance of agreement falls apart hella fast if we aren't talking about the same thing

@natural_hazard "everyone agrees we should coerce coercive people into not coercing anymore" 😂 https://t.co/ON3yPQw3D1
