here's a thing I didn't say, but is related: there exist things that my brain stores as "languages of power" that's not quite the correct terminology. accents of power? affects of power? affectations of power? power is also a little too abstract for what I'm trying to describe https://t.co/YInOEZPQCj https://t.co/FB7og8I1Vw

a thing I believe strongly in is the power of using your own words you donβt actually have to use the vocabulary everyone else is using and Iβm not saying invent unused words, or use really obscure and esoteric ones but rather just, describe things in your own words

authority, maybe. affectations of authority. yes. rings correct to me. ok there exists a style of speaking which is wrought with the affectations of authority it's very tempting to use this, because it's potent, because people respond to it I highly recommend against using it

utterances made with AoA have an implicit proposal in them... ugh part of me is bored and annoyed even talking ABOUT this, bc it shouldn't have to be said, but I think it's non-obvious to some people, so it's worth saying for them

the way you talk, speak, write, implicitly tells people how you should be received, interacted with, and so on. not many people are super conscious or super deliberate about this. ppl tend to inherit some styles and mostly stick with them, and... https://t.co/ItknwdqjxA

I don't think many people realize this! that they might have some verbal tics, certain word choices, pacing... online it might be things like capitalization and punctuation β that directly influences how people treat you https://t.co/3JdCKkTak4

if you've noticed, part of how I avoided AoA in this thread itself is to walk you through the sketchy process of me thinking out loud to figure out what I think I do not want to create the false illusion that I know exactly what I'm talking about. i don't. i'm figuring it out

this is quite a bit of work. I think of this as media studies. understanding how the medium you're operating in creates effects that you might not necessarily intend. lots of ppl never get around to doing this work, probably bc it's quite tedious many often then get pwned

a lot of the (my?) issue with "politics" is that there's too much AoA and not enough intimate sharing of personal details, personal imperfections, uncertainty, humanity. the result is a tremendous clash of abstractions, which can be very dehumanizing https://t.co/OzPHdylVzN

it's something i've been concerned about all my life. how do we take advantage of the powers that are available to us, and use them to serve humanity, without unwittingly becoming dehumanized in the process? i'm not convinced "reject, renounce and hide away" is a good solution

my current model of the solution is to always be evolving. to flow from one state to the next without clinging to power. to be humble in the most critical sense β which is not to pretend to be powerless, but to acknowledge the *limitations* of power https://t.co/YsF6RSbOCA

Sermonposting without shitposting gets you pedestalized, which is dehumanizing Shitpost too much and nobody takes you seriously, which is also kind of dehumanizing You can nerdpost forever quite happily, but it can be a lonely and frustrating experience The flow is the point https://t.co/HYsXv2Bhpc

pretending to be powerless can be a dodge, and it can even be abused by the powerful to extend and sustain their power the right move IMO is to be as rigorously honest and accurate as you can about the precise extent of one's power that's what the crown motif is about, for me

@visakanv re "limitations of power" https://t.co/LiqfkjlwJq
