the interesting part of this to me is when he says “hard to be positive when that’s reality”, when the reality right in front of him only *just* got morphed by his reality distortion field. It’s not reality that screwed him here, but the expectations that he has about reality https://t.co/VujX8KlzNf

reality is much more complex, crazy and wild than our tiny, limited experience of it- but we won’t see it if we stay fixated on our experience https://t.co/CXIC9qvrCA

I never really understood the whole “empty your cup” and “unlearn what you have learned” thing until maybe a couple of years ago. Like, intellectually it sorta made sense, but... is it really that big a deal? It actually is, IMO, and I’m wondering now how I learned to see it

Repeat after me, if you feel like it: Life is hard, and full of rejection and failure. But. I will never be the one to count myself out. I will never take up arms against myself. I will never be the one to sabotage me. I’m on my side and I root for me to succeed. https://t.co/Eo1Pk9g3et

the most foundational elements of this can feel silly to state out loud, but some people might have to do this: - you have to believe that winning is POSSIBLE - you have to believe that losers *can* BECOME winners, through the magic of incremental growth and change, and framing

Took me years to learn this, and you can actually decide to do it in an instant https://t.co/5D7fXwKhYE

@visakanv Actually you can't decide to do it in an instant, I've tried

@nebulousverde you mean you made the decision to stop downplaying your work, but you kept doing it anyway?

@visakanv Something like that. "I won't downplay this thing I'm doing anymore; it's a cool and worthwhile thing actually" but it just doesn't stick, i can't embody it. I've been getting better at it though

@nebulousverde it helps to get very specific and precise about what exactly is cool and worthwhile about the thing you're doing

@visakanv Hmm, that sounds like it'd work. In fact every time I narrate it to someone else and explain it to beginners in the field, they look slightly confused. Then I actually show the thing (it's a program) and they're amazed

@visakanv But my """excuse""" is that they're amazed out of ignorance of the field and how easy it actually it is to build a program like that (it actually is hard as fuck, but because *I* was able to do it, i see it as easy. See the mental trap?)

@visakanv to stop cockblocking himself one day, and get a gf, he would be faced with the necessity of properly grieving all the previous days that he wasted by not doing that that can be really hard. devastating even. death and rebirth https://t.co/aK1qg8B5mU

@visakanv Peoples version of reality is MUCH more bound by the internet nowadays than it ever was. And I think, as technology advances and as people get more depressed and doomscrolly, this becomes truer and truer. "Ur a woman IRL who likes me? Anecdotal evidence lol"

same thing here so fixated on his own perceived flaws, shortcomings, etc that he has to sabotage himself this one is an interesting one because he clearly has what it takes to succeed, if only he didn’t subsequently get in his own way https://t.co/Fiq6WoiUnm
