just heard that someone cured their covid related anosmia (lack of smell) after an LSD trip; after a glance at the literature this effect has been reported quite frequently. n.b. there's probably an opportunity for like, guided trips with high quality perfumes and essential oils

@DanielleFong That LSD impact mTORC1 is interestinghttps://t.co/bv4fpzxLXb

@DanielleFong Particularly because it mTORC1 might be directly involved in olfaction https://t.co/wugBEc5cC5

@DanielleFong Fixing my gut bacteria to promote serotonin producing varieties seemed to improve my sense of smell. I figured it was via niacin+tryptophan, but now am thinking it's hitting mTORC1 given I also got healthier hair.

@DanielleFong There are interactions in this space that are particlarly fascinating https://t.co/7Y5vnlvGhVEspecially findings between chronic supression of that pathway leading to obesity related gut bacteria changes in mice https://t.co/LfB9w9eYeC like a feedback loop.

@DanielleFong Fun stuff tangential to this are some strange findings involving psilocybin / Ayahuasca and beta cell (insulin production) recovery in diabetes type 2. Which may also be via mTORC1 pathways. https://t.co/r939Qo5GAT

@DanielleFong Lots of weird stuff like this shows up in the periphery among psychedelic mushroom and FMT research.https://t.co/LloR0JcCQqI think we are seeing different manifestations of the impact of sub-clinical pellagra, or at least stuff acting on that space.

@DanielleFong Niacin is also involved in his space, because low niacin can lead to pellagra due to poor tryptophan metabolism. It explains why people are harping on NAD as a way to help.https://t.co/MGaeGzxB7c

@DanielleFong We are finding weird gut problems in patients with severe symptoms, in particular missing microbes. I think we might be able to find a better answer if we can find out how stuff like niacin, psilosybin, lsd, etc impacts the way those bacteria work.https://t.co/8ti1SyDSWH

@Geraint6Jones @Niatonin I haven't figured that out yet, but am sniffing down this pathway:"gut microbes can metabolize essential amino acid tryptophan as a precursor for synthesis of indole, serotonin, and melatonin, thereby limiting the availability of tryptophan for the host"https://t.co/PmND9aXup0

@DanielleFong This has a long long history in oddness around autism, which is funny because I found it by thinking about how bees self medicate with flowers.https://t.co/ZY7oOC5ODl

@DanielleFong My personal bet is that stuff like https://t.co/Q7ccAVJwon may be due to similar processes. Notably Alzheimer's has higher rates of GI issues, sub-clinical pellagra, diabetes itself is a risk factor, and we also see higher rates of disease among older people with the condition.

@DanielleFong The mTOR pathway seems to be intimately tied with survival of hypoxia, so it may be that all we are really seeing are sleep problems being exacerbated by insulin issues.https://t.co/lldrFQvPkj
