infohazard on the other hand, we seem to be p routinely incapacitated by pain. is this common among animals? https://t.co/mFleZoDaGI

@goblinodds The problem a lot of people miss with pain is that some of the pains aren't always adaptive. Having an agonizing leg cramp while swimming is often fatal.

@goblinodds Treating pain as one totalizing and conserved feature treated as a bulk thing acted on by evolution ignores how these signals are myriad and modifiable by situation. So comparing them as a cohesive 'pain amount' is where the problem with this argument is rooted.

@goblinodds I can also call into question a couple of other assumptions. That "pain" and suffering are the same thing. And also the idea that is a the Darwinian "purpose" of pain.

@goblinodds Outward expression of pain may very well be a social convention to signal conspecifics of experiences. Could be different from internal learning experiences driven by pain, suggesting it may have other purposes.

@goblinodds And this is completely ignoring acute vs chronic vs hallucinatory pain. Rolling it all up into one singular "suffering" scale and then comparing different animals and humans together with it?Epic trolling.

@goblinodds I think it's funny how many Buddhist meditative practices seem to trigger states that look a heck of a lot like psychological hibernation. And how so many of our pain receptors are activated by temperature. https://t.co/ZtwF2kn1Qy

@goblinodds I want to stick hotsauce up my butt for science. I can experience extreme suffering and try to figure out why TRPV1 receptors (a major pain pathway) seem to cause so many interconnected immune and metabolic responses in our body. https://t.co/U70jgk0CGx

This stuff isn't fun. And Capsaicin poisoning is a potential life threatening agent, if you accidentally inhale it.I'm treating it like an infectious agent. BSL-1 at least.https://t.co/YnZdDQYb6X https://t.co/eDEAFBbjoe

@goblinodds I find it really funny how he's literally written science papers on the topic of the evolution of hiccups being vestigial and I think he's wrong. My idea explains why chilli peppers give us hiccups.https://t.co/PLvqf3yuKohttps://t.co/eWzjYDQmMV

And when I shitpost about hiccups and amphibians, its because I'm exploring how breath is managed within our body. I wondered why anal sex cures hiccups, and found that epilepsy can cause them. CO2 homeostasis is complex!https://t.co/XIFvmEY83t

@goblinodds and has direct ties amygdala (CO2 sensor listening to the vagus nerve) + fear pathways related to autism.https://t.co/icrr4BjMfwAll my ideas can be traced to how I think he's deluding himself with "evolution caused this, therefor I'm right".https://t.co/d0mODyA8GB

Even the CO2 mediation is due to a vagal nerve + amygdala feedback loop. Blood PH is largely due to balencing CO2 -> Bohr effect.https://t.co/cba26D6poV

Does anybody else remember when Dawkins talked about cannibalism in a theoretical sense and everybody was framing him as supporting the idea? You'd think a guy who went & spit on god himself would be against ritualized cannibalism.https://t.co/49GlplYjNK
