If I had the time energy and resources to do it I would help demonstrate what a feminine aesthetic can look like for men. This is not correct imo. There is a way to make dresses work for men but you have to reimagine and redesign the dress from first principles to match the body https://t.co/dhtRFk5R6w

I get the sense that people are so invested in a “it’s so brave and progressive of men to wear dresses” meme that they suspend aesthetic judgement look there’s a lot of ways that men can dress that don’t involve pants and if you wanna dress like a woman that’s totally cool But https://t.co/ewG58YK92S

there’s a whole universe of beautiful aesthetics that men can explore that has “feminine” characteristics that doesn’t make the mistake of trying to wear someone else’s costume, and hardly anybody seems to be doing this. Drives me a little mad https://t.co/gj98C8dOXm

there’s an almost mathematical quality to this. it’s about the geometry of your body, and your skin tone, etc. You can learn this actually just by studying women’s fashion deeply enough - because different women with different bodies have to use different approaches too

accidentally stumbled upon this whole face/body/energy aesthetic typology system via an image search that brought me to the subreddit /r/kibbe. it's particularly interesting bc people actually share their own looks https://t.co/VTDB1vMpgo

some of my own looks, this is about all I’ve been able to do so far with off-the-rack options I bet I could find a way to make a dress work if I wanted to but it would involve a lot of “math” in getting the dress to work for me https://t.co/06y7fvqmtz

you can generally look to depictions of Krishna for examples of a man expressing his feminine energy without looking like he’s forcing it. the “flow” isn’t “choked”, there is harmony and resonance https://t.co/p4uNC9Oxie

that aside, what a fascinating, touching, intimate couple these two are. I love how they're so often portrayed touching each other lovingly, tenderly https://t.co/kF888J39CF

I think intuitively people know like “you don’t wear a ball gown to a beach party”, right? Different contexts. Different bodies are different contexts too https://t.co/ORA8fGvKqz

I love these pictures of Jessie Graff, a stunt woman with big powerful muscles. You can see in the first pic she’s not super comfortable with standing around posing like a model, but ask her to move and suddenly it’s poetry. And her dress is *designed* to accommodate her movement https://t.co/SahQrWVyPK

I already have several aesthetics thread, but here's one that's like... *only* examples of art that I would like to *actually* print out and surround myself with to keep me inspired so... @visakanv's refactored aesthetics, the 2019 thread https://t.co/AMvwrJR5Pm

saw this pic on the left on the TL, and found myself thinking, again, that the cuts are all wrong, aesthetically, in terms of shapes and lines. you don't necessarily need to get cuts like the ones on the right, but notice how the shapes work better, and feel better https://t.co/UeNTXHuauo

@visakanv I went to try on a dress at a sort of middle-aged-woman's clothes store once when shopping with someone else, and the storeclerk woman was a little nervous but then she was like "huh, the wide shoulders of that actually suit you better than any woman I've seen try it on!"

@visakanv I don't have a good photo on hand that really shows it off, but this is it. Not excited about my glasses or facial hair or expression or shoulder-pose here, so this is more of an "if you're curious what the dress happened to be" not a showing off. https://t.co/K5NTIzBRW8

@visakanv most lady-dresses are designed around a bust though, and often have a sort of sash thing that pulls things in below that in a weird way, that doesn't suit male bodies usually (also have to deal with how non-poofy dresses can easily have their contours disrupted by crotch bulge)

@visakanv even if not awkward about crotch bulge or whatever, it's still visually not great jeans & other men's pants have a lot of ambiguity there; the fabric naturally folds a bit, bulges could probably make a dress that does similar! hadn't really thought about that before

@visakanv this is my fav dress-like garment I own atm. has a really multi-level trippy texture. I usually wear it with pants underneath though (partially just for pockets!) I'll take another picture at some point illustrating the crotch bulge effect. https://t.co/eLgdLbuB4h
