This is a huge part of the premise of my book... man I could probably write my book entirely out of my friends’ tweets https://t.co/7oIPeY7tVL

so introspective stream-of-consciousness writing is one of the ways you you break free from the prison of the mind’s propaganda department, and the final boss battle is to confront the following: https://t.co/Z0jWpJUS8R

@DRMacIver yea the good thing about a book is that you can pace yourself, and the setup/expectations are conveyed in advance, etc. like choosing to go for a massage rather than getting groped randomly in passing

expressing yourself and describing things is an art just like music, poetry, stand up comedy. you can get better with practice. you can get *masterful* at it. and past a certain threshold, reality begins to rearrange itself around your goals and desires https://t.co/N3ocUCJrFb

can't believe I managed to significantly elevate my material conditions, find a fantastic group of close friends, lose weight, meet my husband, and overall position myself better than my parents did at my age...mainly by incessantly posting online about my internal state

some people call this "cope", in a tone which to me implies a defeatist, avoidant, escapist attitude. I choose to approach it as playing the counter-melodies, arranging artfully around the truth of reality to *support* it in a nourishing & empowering way https://t.co/szyeZ69k6H

can confirm. this is why it’s worth getting good at investigating narratives, and understanding the principles of good storytelling. How you frame your story influences where you direct your attention, which influences your experience of purpose, gratitude and joy https://t.co/vjvXKsXNhT

yes, and! tangentially, self-loathing is when you become your own abusive boyfriend inside your head. everything you do is trash and fail, but the voice calling you trash and fail is somehow an infallible, trustworthy authority, beyond reproach https://t.co/8I2hcW7GiP https://t.co/qtOkepu51d

25. Revisiting this absolute banger from Lulie. Today I'm thinking, if people weren't internally conflicted, then nobody would ever do anything "bad". Nobody would smoke cigarettes, eat junk food, stay up too late playing video games. https://t.co/nUwNeTP0JU

'Self discipline' is a patch for being conflicted about what you want to do. Often, productive people are interpreted as 'having discipline': able to force themselves to do the work even when it's unpleasant. But creative productivity only ever works in *spite* of that.

@visakanv It was Socrates who thought that all learning was recollection. I’ve increasingly come to view writing as a kind of Socratic teacher. Reminding me of many things I’ve forgotten and some things I didn’t know I knew.
