Yup, sometimes you can put an intention in the background and your system will make it happen. That clarity makes a difference. Honestly sometimes *trying* to do something directly can generate resistance. All of that is stuff we talk about at these online workshops we run. https://t.co/BZpeCt7cth

Funny how goals get done without needing to hyper focus on the goals themselves. I forgot I set these goals during the Goal Setting Intensive with @Malcolm_Ocean Clear intentions, lightly held. https://t.co/xzxdFT0iAA

Okay, other relevant thoughts. @ThreadHelper, help me out. Where's that thread where I talk about what happens when you remove key ingredients from a goal, like that cookie experiment someone did? Ah great, yup, here it is: https://t.co/PIPfpd8DNA https://t.co/hOPiCu3mPK

I'm going to elaborate a bit on this model of what a goal becomes when you remove a key ingredient from the recipe. https://t.co/5bUIovBs2F

Now what about the thread about how naming goals is kind of like ritual magic? (@ThreadHelper isn't finding this one for me, but that's fine, I can search it. TH is still also magical.) https://t.co/U0yFfrbP8y

Realization: the way I relate to my goals on https://t.co/lRiGUxBh9B is… kinda like ritual magic. Basically by naming & enumerating the main careabouts I'm moving towards, I create affordances for invoking them as sources of motivation & clarity. πŸ§™β€β™‚οΈβœ¨ Thread on naming goals 🧡

For anyone who's skeptical of the entire idea of goals, here's a long thread that thoroughly points out that basically all issues with goals are actually issues with one's *relationship* to goals, and probably exist towards your implicit goals anyway. https://t.co/mdaL5P9dcd

The term "pre-success failure" from @ScottAdamsSays' book is a gem. His related idea that you should have systems and not have goals is absurd. (have both!) Scott cites Olympic athletes as examples. 🀨 Take 3 guesses what goal an Olympic athlete has... πŸ₯‡πŸ₯ˆπŸ₯‰

If the word "goal" doesn't work for you, no worries. It's just a pointer to whatever you deeply want. If you can get really clear on what you want, and let yourself do it, it can flow! Andβ€”that's not always easy. So you need approaches in the meantime. https://t.co/tIdRoBeOq8

Here's the mistake: doing what you want is not an ACTIVE doing, it's a passive allowing. "Giving in to temptation." You don't DO sleep, you allow yourself to fall asleep.

Here's @m_ashcroft with a tweet and some discussion about how he prefers the word "intention" over "goal". https://t.co/f5sDCL9TwI

Goodhart's Law also neatly captures the difference between an intention and a goal. Once you make something a goal and start really ~caring~ that you achieve it, you remove the potential for spontaneous authentic expression. Goals are fine, just hold them lightly. https://t.co/ky4c52W8G2

The workshop isn't just a bunch of lecture content & exercise. It's got a little of those, but it's choose-your-own-adventure: work through at your own pace & talk with coaches to get unstuck or for general advice. Link for Dec & Jan events: https://t.co/jf9whOM1Td
