๐Ÿšจ Future course alert ๐Ÿšจ Over the last few months I've been playing with different ways to teach Alexander Technique online. I'm now ready to make a course. I enjoy building in public, so I want to share the process I'll go through to do this, starting with this thread. ๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿ‘‡

I didn't expect to be here. I thought I'd tweet about energy innovation and stuff like that, but on a whim I started talking about 'expanded awareness', and you all liked it. It started with a thread of threads, which continues to evolve... https://t.co/8pbuK6cI8e

1/ This is a thread on things I've written about Alexander Technique. I will expand it as I write more things. https://t.co/hq7gk6EBmB

I launched a newsletter, Expanding Awareness, which now has almost 400 subscribers. Through these tweet threads, the newsletter, and twitter chats, I've learned that: i) I have something to share ii) that people want iii) and I'm able to teach it online https://t.co/Iol9o85q7O

But I wanted to go further. I tweeted an Airtable form for people to sign up for 1:1 introductory Alexander Technique video taster sessions with me. I've now done about 25 โ€“ with another 15 in the diary โ€“ and have had great feedback. This thing works. https://t.co/XS3Ek2R8FP

1] I am offering exploratory 1:1 Alexander Technique video sessions with anyone interested. If that's you, then please fill in the form here: https://t.co/a6TpjQ997w This is part of my ongoing journey to figure out the best ways to teach this stuff online.

I ran these calls on a generosity model, so people could donate if they wanted to, but it wasn't required. I've received hundreds of dollars in donations and feel hugely grateful. It has been really moving, actually. https://t.co/BpBkPfwcLb

Now I have a 'problem'. I haven't been promoting that Airtable form, but I still have dozens of people on the waiting list. Demand for sessions is far exceeding my capacity to supply them. I really want to share this stuff, because I believe there's something important here.

That means a course, so I can decouple the value from my time. At first I was overwhelmed by the idea of making a "learning Alexander Technique online" course. For now that is beyond my capacity. But what is within my capacity is replicating and enhancing these taster calls.

I've learned a lot from these video calls, and I think I can create something that's as valuable as it is simple. Courses don't need to be months-long affairs. They can be short and targeted to open people's awareness that a new dimension of experience is available to access.

So that's what I'll be doing in the next few weeks. Like I said, I'll be sharing all the behind the scenes: - how I structure the course - how I think about pricing - how I use different tools (hello #nocode) - marketing - how I manage my productivity, emotions, and time etc.

3) Subscribe to my weekly newsletter, Thinking Out Loud, where I'll be doing a lot more of the 'build in public' content. https://t.co/qqmYnHMiMu That'll do for now. I'm excited! Michael out

@Neats29 Haha the pressure just had to build up, I think. I'm actually a very 'bottom up' person - things emerge for me, I can't force them.

@m_ashcroft I think that's the best way to do it, it's the most "organic" approach ๐Ÿ™‚

@Neats29 I think it's also more fun and leads to better results, because the whole thing happens in a more play-like way. Still, I can attest that this approach suffers from 'long dark nights of the soul' as well.

@m_ashcroft Yep and it's more dependent on serendipity which is good on one hand but it's reliant on chance on the other hand.

@Neats29 Agreed, but I think that's also a good thing as it encourages us to create more serendipity, let's say, just for example, by writing vulnerably on Twitter.
