Hypothesis: If you think of Kanye as a “status deregulator”, he makes a lot more sense. He’s willing to be wrong, to be insulted, mocked, etc in order to achieve his long-term goal of being relatively free from the constraints of other people’s status rules

You can personally find Kanye to be tacky and cringe and still indirectly benefit from the work he’s done as a public figure to expand the range of expression. He could’ve just sat on his ass and enjoyed being a comfortable wealthy person. Same is true of Elon

None of this is to handwave away from their personal failings and the costs and consequences of their actions. But the point is that more of us could each be doing our own thing to challenge the status quo. If you don’t like it you can build your own https://t.co/6AgyWZ7HIb https://t.co/O4NFz9k0r7

@visakanv I believe it’s also due to not wanting praise for non praise worthy actions because they associate these two together in your mind. At least that’s true for me. It also doesn’t say anything if it comes from somebody who can’t accurately judge.

we expend a lot of energy to stay in one place. we inherit this practice. it is ritualistically reinforced. we struggle to notice it even as we do it, because it’s embedded deep in the source code of everyday socialising https://t.co/WyN5s9TPZR
