I think Iβm revising my belief about determinism in a direction I donβt like, and this has been a source of unpleasantness and frustration for me. I think reality is more deterministic than I had wanted to believe. The good news is that itβs still very open-ended... I hope π
People can change, people can surprise you, unforeseen things happen all the time... yet(?) this is really more a function of the limits of our perception, our understanding and our models of reality. In a way our ignorance is a source of novelty and surprise
We βplay the cards weβre dealtβ, and βgo to war with the army we have, not the army we wish we hadβ - these are correct in the immediate present. But in the long game, if you can choose better cards, better players, etc, it makes sense to do so
walking away from a disagreement can be a more profound and substantial disagreement than having it. not always; often itβs shitty escapism or conflict avoidance. But also, not every fight has to be fought If you play a bigger/longer game you *will* be misinterpreted

@eddiephlash @ESYudkowsky No. EY thinks so too, which is why he considers that a non-aligned AI. I would consider that acceptably-aligned, because the remaining 6billion of us would get to live like god-kings, and on balance that's worth it. Don't let me design AGI until I can prove it's aligned.

@visakanv You are dealt the cards you have to work with, but the other Visas get dealt other cards, all possible combinations. So at least one of you has nothing to complain about. :-)

Given two data points I could give you 100 data points following one "simple" generative ruleset. Only 100 cause ppl dont let me keep going that long.

@CountJ0ecool @visakanv What is your take on crushing the universe? Something like quantum-tunneling in anti-baryons from the many-worlds, driving down the magnitude of Higgs field to produce a negative cosmological constant, allowing us to use gravitational shear as an energy source, etc.
