I was watching the episode of @patriotact that's about fast fashion, and something struck me about the fake/parody/satire H-M store with giant posters of Hasan on the walls. There's something here about social strategy + slingshot theory + mere exposure effect https://t.co/ywK0ap3v9S

@patriotact Hasan is a good-looking guy to begin with. He's working with solid fundamentals. But he didn't start out as "sexy romantic lead". You can tell he started out as a bit of an awkward nerd, hence comedy. If you pay attention, you'll notice he makes fun of his own appearance a lot https://t.co/8VigJhTNcx

@patriotact but what's been really cool to witness is to watch him grow into his role, develop confidence – and you can see it in his body language, you can see it in his face. as he accumulates experience &good vibes from his audiences, you can see him getting more comfortable, charismatic https://t.co/XMPj7YXCKA

@patriotact it's funny to see that hasan used to do comedy with his hands in his pockets; obama did the same thing when he was young (saw a vid once but it's impossible to find now). Can't read too much into it ofc, but I feel like it correlates to a ~~ self-soothing of ⚡︎pent up energy https://t.co/mKZexBSfvw

@patriotact anyway look at him now!! He built his confidence, got his exposure, did the work. He's visibly more relaxed, and – I'll say it – he's sexy now! I think most guys can go through their own version of this journey. Socializing is a big part of it. Successes are a big part of it https://t.co/WOegppcYjt

@patriotact (I found the old Obama video where he keeps putting his hand back in his pocket 😂 Public speaking ain't easy, man. But if you persist, and iterate as you go, taking in feedback, etc – you can develop outsized charisma, which is a very useful and satisfying thing to have) https://t.co/IyjhNDWNEi

@patriotact also check out this vid of Jason Mraz when he was a kid 😂❤️ it takes time and practice to develop deep confidence. I love seeing that people used to be nervous and shy https://t.co/CavP0sdA2q

Oh yeah, Slingshot Theory! Basically, if you can’t be publicly sexy on day 1, be publicly funny or weird - and then parlay *that* into sexy. People will find it easier to accept once they already see a lot of you + your experience will make it more legit https://t.co/bjb07FfUnU https://t.co/7PTQpPqcrK

been procrastinating for years on an essay exploring how lady gaga chose to be weird as a positioning strategy in order to get the attention (for her hard-won talent) that would make her a star. she knew she couldn't get to where she is by playing it straight https://t.co/vver9z2q5m

I think Lilly Singh is someone else who’s done this masterfully. There are probably several other people who’ve done this via a YouTube path. It’s easy to say “oh she has a makeup team now” - yes, and there’s more that goes into this. You have to rework your self-concept/image https://t.co/IMS4Og615J

The best way to see the difference is to get someone to dress the same. The energy is different! Early 90s Rock wasn’t electrifying yet. People had not yet smelt what The Rock was cooking https://t.co/HfwQBgmlS5 https://t.co/wKxI5MXB4Q

learned a bit more between 2019-2022 you can expand or contract your awareness to become more/less sexy, more/less high-status https://t.co/zWGuLKX7NZ

you can learn to switch between these modes it's a learnable skill you can become hotter with the same facial features yea growing a bit of facial hair is generally a good idea for dudes but it's not just that it's about how warm and open your energy is https://t.co/fLpNdb1RVK

compare avril's posture and presentation in her first (2002) vs most recent album (2022) https://t.co/y4L1QvMhqJ

@AskYatharth @patriotact it’s less than 20% imo, i think it feels like the outward characteristics are most of it because that’s what your attention is drawn to. but his arms aren’t that much bigger he’s just more comfortable displaying them now, and he looks better shaven too For further study: https://t.co/xvY83SDaFt

a thing I like to do after watching a movie or a tv show is to watch interviews with the actors. with comedies, is that you see how actors often have much more expanded awareness when they're not playing comedic roles. they perform "collapsed awareness" to demo low-status https://t.co/aKxMGsr0VJ
