That thread is a mesh.It doesn't show up well on twitter, but my idea network has directional links between ideas.I leverage our collective meaning making and attention networks to act as a temporal stigmergic web of ideas, using search to index into.https://t.co/F9KHfLQ0IS

You travel along the network in one direction -> your curiosity guiding branching paths/backtracking (I think of you as a prolog program searching for 'TRUE').I am a spider, catching ideas on the web, adjusting scent on the line to direct you down paths. https://t.co/vTZA6YLCxT

All linearizations of ideas would be but one path thru the maze.Like a choose your own adventure, each person's experience is unique.Even just watching me form thoughts (weave ideas?) in real time gives a different experience from those who come later.https://t.co/w5pHye6mMO

There is no chance really of a long form of this, no.I could perhaps build a map, but the story itself is unfolding as I write it.https://t.co/uCH3eVreXe

I've been weaving ideas since before twitter supported quote tweets. Some of my earlier threads have upwards of 4 or more tweet links in them. Some tweets serve many purposes, acting as spokes to transition between threads. Some are just words used to add to narrative.

The context for this one 'below'? To show how this thread is me unbundling complex ideas. Decompressing it. Explaining myself. I think I've used it like 5 different times. Some of my ideas are orphans until the right context shows up for them to flower.https://t.co/e72s1tX2Lj

Forming, unforming, reforming. the coding, decoding, and recoding of the assemblage. Continuously reforming gradients in the environment.Socialnet as filter. Shape as feedback loops. Directionality like neurons. A layered mealy machine powered by attention/recombinatory noise.

This entire thread you are reading now is compressed in that one tweet. I haven't had capability to express it that is easier to understand. It wasn't until twitter broke (this strange game I was playing with everyone) that I started to unravel the rules.https://t.co/BiVKis7spE

Now all my tweets are left to roam like orphans outside of their narrative mooring. "[person you follow liked this tweet]", "[person you follow commented on this tweet]", "maybe you like this person since your other folowers follow them".Unmoored.https://t.co/y3HJXOJdZ3

I have something in my brain that I am trying to express. A powerful intuition. But like complex bundle of origami, it's true beauty has let to be expressed. The picture in my head is literally about something unfolding itself. Decompressing. https://t.co/kuORFCAqBG

There's something fundamental my mind has picked up on, but I don't have the language to express it. Like a rose unfurling in slow motion. https://t.co/CTYXjtynvJ

Or a dragon's wings being pumped up - slowly developing into a complex structures. An idea taking on the necessary scaffolding to take flight. https://t.co/eixtxvasNB

Crystallizing an idea? Giving it form and structure. https://t.co/7fXCE78Kha

That idea, but as a Trolley problem.https://t.co/nYV8qKV7Zr

It seems I am able to do what I do because of a freakish natural preference toward something called "Methods of Loci" / "Mind Palace" techniques.https://t.co/JAYc9HLxUC https://t.co/j2mNzV90cj

Ideas and words that are used often become memetic signposts.https://t.co/VRzwRPx7uA

@ryan_nayr_ @callumflack @visakanv @nikillinit I've been using term "signpost" vs "axioms" - Often the phrase that ends up being most meaningful isn't something apparent until I tread down a search multiple times (following it like a path). It seems to self optimize like how ants compress their paths. https://t.co/XcwvBYHhUj

Sometimes the signpost are entire people. Ideas flood back to me - anchored to strong memories of them. Hmm, so @outdreamer is related to the idea I'm looking for adjacent to "signposts" and then @monk51295 pops into my head in my head. https://t.co/XmbycVxIhx

That makes me think of "hidden genius"https://t.co/m7IyzRWLx0

And that? Playing with other people's ideas. Stealing their toys.https://t.co/FkenVpzJQS

Ahah, thats it. I stole Idio Jargon from @monk51295.I'm thinking of this tweet:https://t.co/Ma9xrpuTRU

And that tweet reminds me of being "ontologically soft"https://t.co/MWUXOMc9I4

I'm ontologically soft - my brain doesn't modeling culturally/social defined axis of meaning. Even when I have a strong ontology internally, my brain doesn't seem to care about arbitrary divides and I need to build rule-sets about expectations explicitly.https://t.co/psfCHye0qH

Which I gotta jump to a different vernal pool to trace down.Content is surprisingly meta.https://t.co/AFTL1V8L7M https://t.co/QafZ69pWl0

Ah, a different thread there mentioned soft ontologies, which also contained the idea I was looking for all along."Free associating mind vomit."And so, my answer to this question, with a built in example ala the last few tweets in this thread.https://t.co/GSP0s7riFJ https://t.co/TsI6MJp9oN

The hard one to do is when the signpost is entirely visual. I remembered describing this system a bit more to a chair. Hmm. Maybe it was the "the chair who follows me"? Had to scrub thru my follows list to find them.https://t.co/QuUuhnksPu

@merriman_bt Chain it. Association cascades. One idea triggers the next. Spaced repetition uses that part of the brain wrong if you want to leverage maps of meaning. Fundamentally is a lossy hack that doesn't allow for information to compress by overlapping ideas.https://t.co/844r8HhNJF

That was a pain in the butt, so I'm making a mental note that it was an "old chair" who follows me. Which I associated with Museums (old things to look at -> ala playing with "visual" signpost concept). In my head they are now "a muse".And now search works to find them quicker. https://t.co/lmSwhqA0mB

When did we stop calling them "mind maps" and start calling them "mind palaces"?https://t.co/GkdkhcUdeZ

Mind vomit is just so much easier to remember over "memory palace" https://t.co/2oZdCoSBJT

Had to use google [https://t.co/ZunTsEO0M1]to find my #\root thread.https://t.co/SPaGN5728w

@automaticyes @jongold My intention w/ https://t.co/sxj3oeyD2N is to replace what I do on witter in platform that is content focused over people focused. My threads here wove in other's tweets, and then the tweets vanished as accounts were removed. I described my usage here: https://t.co/iNFo2CNgHL

I was looking for this thread because I wanted to remember the name of the person I know who works on https://t.co/A2VXv9J7bohttps://t.co/hF99GwrjWl

Someone mentioned Astra Taylor and Fauxtomation over on Mastodon. I ended up on https://t.co/K4S75TRpRq and realized that @monk51295 had already done the research I wanted to do on her.

In the process of finding this thread, I also made the connection that I am structuring my https://t.co/OVz1sEU6MW channels based on the same rough idea as to how redefineschool is organized around 'idio jargon'.https://t.co/m4qQHJkL3H

@automaticyes @jongold I use 'signpost' method I discuss in that thread, but adapted to https://t.co/pvfP6oVwFv's format. I can search for my channel on micribiome stuff by searching for "microbiome butts". (https://t.co/LmQuaCqbqI) It works real well with the quick entry bookmarklet and onsite search.

I think I see how that is being structured in the context of blogs. Where I have a channel on https://t.co/OVz1sEU6MW, or a search terms & quotetweets on twitter, @monk51295 is using pages + links to create jumping-off points. Different expressions of the same underlying pattern.

A completely different lens on the same pattern is the concept of wikilogging https://t.co/sMxpDsVwgc which @BillSeitz introduced me to. Interestingly, both Bill and Monika are familiar with the way that @jerrymichalski uses "TheBrain"

There's something interesting here in noticing these meta-patterns. I can now loosely translate my personal meaning making 'web' of ideas into the structures I find on redefineschool or webseitz, and leverage their structures to operate on my own.

These persisted architectures of thought means I can leverage learning not just vicariously thru others, but thru time. It's 2019 & I just heard about fauxtomation, but thru internet time-travel, I can consume thread started in 2011 and learn about her ideas on unschooling.

"Writing isn’t a zero sum activity. I can convey expertise in X and you can convey expertise in Y. Writing is rarely substitutable and there isn’t a single, formal hierarchy for ideas."https://t.co/18Q2EchT6i

Even this whole #\root'ing convention is itself just a translation layer I adopted to help others follow along with my thinking.https://t.co/VkebstkA3k

@vgr @visakanv also @mwiik and @chumulu, and more recently @MimeticValue, @GRITCULT, and @NPSix21 are doing it.@desantis had a #root'ing, that seems to have spread the format a bit under 'Xanadu' ideas.I've called it Meditative Tweetstorms / Weaving / LongStormshttps://t.co/udq8oXPAdW

@AbstractFairy @gwern @geoffreylitt @thlpr A tip that helps me specifically with twitter (and I've used Google's search to index into my twitter for a while), is to embed linguistic shorthand. I am not actually sure, but the image I traced looked like a harvester ant. In my own headspace I also recorded that it was farming an aphid. I left those aspects out of the associations embedded in the meme.https://t.co/CVgaCRbCNb

Recognized this myself; applying the association system I use for building my twitter memex, allows me to encode ideas into memes, and communicate via a messy multi-pronged bandit.https://t.co/UxnyGsLRV4

One of the things that Is also missing is that I was recording how often I used a particular signpost via my browser's history. It doesn't work anymore, but a search for "from:ultimape high-brow wow" would have found this tweet:https://t.co/a2J9weh8RI

I have that concept encoded in this tweet:I find it when I think about "I'm even this acronym is"which triggers me to remember a thought I had about how even searches can be searched & used as idea signposts. https://t.co/5tCFH5yH5A
