TFW: Reading a science publication that suggests the efficacy of Talk Therapy is on par with taking SSRIs, and then realizing that I could just eat bacteria shit and cure my treatment resistant depression. https://t.co/jN5azdd0ep

Whats that? The microbiome seems to play a role in depression when tested on rats?https://t.co/tpe9hkMdZG

Dysgeusia is fascinating. Why do taste sensors seem to show up in parts of the body that deal w/ chemical concentrations, microbial management, or have a high need to maintain homeostatic / immune responses? We have taste receptors in our brain, ovaries/testes, pancreas, & anus.

I'm on the same journey but avoiding people. Hacking my vagus nerve and immune system etc. under and assumption that my high-strung / tightness is driven by physiology. My model is i'm more predisposed to getting these symptoms.https://t.co/l4WUn3Zju5https://t.co/BCXaI0hAjC

I think there is something real going on with talk & group therapy. For many, going thru what Forte did and approaching things in that way is viable! For me it didn't seem to help. But by working on the underlying physiology, my problems just went away.https://t.co/19yDZ6lwIo

I'd bet could replace "Anger Work" with 'lift some weight' (or 'go for for a run'). Getting physical activity can help drive anandamide release which can help you think clearer; and lots of muscle use can elicit testosterone and reduce cortisol, both help regulate immune system.

My larger model of these systems is that they are homeostatic feedback loops that can get stuck. It is more than likely that by working on the mental hangups and dealing with psychological stresses that you could loosen up the system enough to free it up to fix itself.

But if there is an underlying problem that is forcing you to be more sensitive to social stresses, then you may not get as far. It gets old being told over and over that it's all due to your mental models and that you just need to work thru some issues.https://t.co/f6ZreJisgv

My thinking has always been there are both psychological and biological causes of unwellness. That there are environmental factors. Both emotional trauma, as well as physical trauma. Lack of healthy food AND lack of healthy relationships. And a lack of skills to mitigate them.

I see this problem of people not looking at this space holistically. Similar Robert Sapolsky in the start of that podcast; it could be said the entirety of psychology is based on this muddled model of the human condition from the late 1800s / early 1900s.https://t.co/xfnAiKqJDl

In our collective rush to deal with torments of the 21st century, we end up shitting on each other over which approach is best. We shame each other into inducing a 'once size fits all' approach to wellness. And it's wrong. Because we're not all the same.https://t.co/Os40FGZfpK

So I repeat one of Forte's sentences in his piece."Imagine what life would be like if the voice in your head was encouraging you instead of criticizing you."While asking: What are they trying to tell you? And what if they're wrong about the problem?https://t.co/qaTvqBZIGe

Once you understand those, we can modulate them through design, environment, culture, relationship skills, and sociology. We can thrive.
