I geek out a lot about women’s aesthetics (some guys find this weird, but ¯\_(ツ)_/¯). In general there’s this really powerful thing women can do when they embody this ideal of strength - literally wearing armor in some cases. I’ve been curious about the male “equivalent” https://t.co/V9usXcq04N

“well men can wear armor too, men literally invented wearing armor,” – yeah, exactly – which is why it’s not as *interesting*. Do you get it? I’m solving for “how do you embody an ideal of masculinity while simultaneously subverting the simpleton’s cargo cult caricature of it” https://t.co/QnzNdpL2jk

I served in the military; I’m not someone who thinks “oh, men can be soft and weak, it doesn’t matter”. Strength matters. And so does smarts, and sensitivity. What does a real 2019 **warrior-poet-philosopher-king** look like? The perfect man? The ideal? 🤔 https://t.co/eI8Rzp8Jc8

I think subconsciously this has been shaping my own exploration of my own aesthetics, which has been veering into a slightly dandy-ish, “Knight of Flowers” sort of vibe. Ofc, you still need to be tough if you want to command the respect of other men https://t.co/X6xRLHfxXK

I’m really digging this but it’s one size too small and they don’t have XL. Sigh long man problems https://t.co/qaP04wy8YA

Several of you mentioned David Bowie and you are all 100% correct IMO. If any of this looks “off” now, I think it’s mainly because the looks were put together for their time. If you want to embody Bowie, you have to reconstruct it from first principles. But he totally got it https://t.co/bbu4hIGgyj

Another man who I think embodied this in his own way was Jimi Hendrix. Hendrix was FUCKING. He had swagger, he had style, he was oozing sexual energy from every pore, every vibrato and whammy bar wail. I feel like I don’t hear non-guitarists talk about him much these days https://t.co/RMbLfJnIst

Yeah I guess aesthetics-wise, “Desi-Bowie-Hendrix” probably has enough material to keep me interested and interesting for a lifetime. Ranveer Singh is a fellow brown man who I think has his own vibe figured out https://t.co/a8OJRiJ8Av

I was never a big Prince fan, but the man was *clearly* in tune with his own vibe, and I respect that a lot. One of my bandmates said to me once - when he’s performing, it feels like you’re in his bedroom – it’s super sensual and intimate https://t.co/qehSGtcNcM

This is exactly who I would want to be if I were a woman https://t.co/ysHX3TW2su
