A couple of nights I had trouble sleeping so I decided to count. I think counting in multiples of 7 is hardest. But interestingly after a while you start recognising the pattern. The last digit follows a loop: 7...4...1...8...5...2...9...6...3...0... and then it loops

Once you’re very comfortable with these you get better at things like... 13 * 17 = (10+3) * (20-3) = 10*20 +3*20 - 3*10 - 3*3 = 200+60-30-9 = 230-9 = 221

There’s a lesson in here about breaking down big things into their constituent parts. I love words, but rather than learn lots of new words as independent things I like to understand how words work and come together. Words have families and histories, they’re all related https://t.co/YlwaFTKEo1

I don’t like memorizing arbitrary strings if I can help it. So the thing about 7s is also to break it down into its constituents: 1+6, 2+5, 3+4 and 10-3 https://t.co/QAElTqizfP
