I’m really enjoying Horizon Zero Dawn so far. It cleverly remixes a lot of the best aspects from a great set of other games - Uncharted, Arkham Asylum, shades of Dragon Age and Elder Scrolls too - and even Mass Effect. The worldbuilding is particularly fantastic and feels novel

The game is set in a post-Apocalyptic future where our descendants got mostly wiped out in a Skynet genocide. The game focuses its attention on the nuances of how the different tribes relate to the Old Ones (our grandkids!) differently. This is the fresh, thought-provoking part

Just finished it. What a beautiful experience. It goes the distance. It’s now the brightest star in a constellation of my favorite games, along with Mass Effect 2, Terranigma, Final Fantasy 6 & 7. As with all my favorite things, I’d do a few things differently - but ❤️

The common feature in all of my favourite games is character development - the protagonist and their teammates come together, help each other out, learn and grow together, and have each other’s backs. It’s a powerful, inspiring message that I’ve tried to internalize myself

Cloud, Shepard, Terra, Ark, and now Aloy - to me they all embody this idea that if you conduct yourself with decency and humanity, and help others, you can earn their gratitude and loyalty - and in the process collectively become something greater than yourselves
