Kickstarter was awesome... years ago.Now its a cess-pit of late night scummy infomercials hyped up on marketing fads, expense, and disappointment.I don't trust the brand anymore. https://t.co/Y1bt7VSbxq and https://t.co/nhK5dUoENO have destroyed it for me.cc @cdixon https://t.co/q0O9U2hB8Y

I want innovation. I don't want parasitic marketers sucking money out of the innovators by drowning out those who can't pay for it. How can we short-circuit this phenomena? What incentives this feedback loop of noise and bullshit that leads to winner take all?

Some guy in 2013 invented a product, sold it on kickstarter.https://t.co/68MSHLFXO0It was neat, novel, and solved a problem.Network effects are great, but if marketing is all we have as tools to cut thru the noise, I don't think growth beyond a certain scale is desirable.

Once a market's attention is saturated, you keep paying more just to stay afloat. All this does is drown out the quieter voices. This feedback loop does not lead to increased innovation and democratization of access to the means of production.

What it does mean is that you can get ahead by paying a black-hat marketing firm money to click on your competitor's ads. It means you can artificially increase your perceived value by having sock-puppets pledge support while kickstarter gets a small % of that fee.

And you're all but forced to do this, because if you don't the other guy certainly will. And so we're left with an polarized ecosystem overrun by risk-adverse copy-cats propped up by marketing $$$, or scammers who have no scruples. There is no middle.

As markets like this scale, only the cuthroat can survive. This kills innovation. This destroys the spirit of those who come by their innovation honestly. They are undercut and fucked over by market incentives.Where is the puck headed? https://t.co/gcsrHuQLe5

hyper-local decentralized cooperatives built to meet the needs of their community, vs massive conglomerates who eat everything and shit out shoes. There is no middle.https://t.co/jkLLW8XFbX

Stealing innovation from the gods. Opening pandora's box. Turning a value-generating system in to in a zero-sum game. Extraction. Rent seeking. Toxic.https://t.co/gcsrHuQLe5 https://t.co/xKefj078ZO
