Work I've published in 2017 that I'm proud of, a thread. 1/ This post is a gift to my younger self on his first day of work. Every time I re-read it, I realize I still need to work on my fundamentals. Always will, of course. That's the point. https://t.co/4v1lUfFtOe

/ I like to take photos. I often take pictures of strangers. Here are some of my favorite shots. It's an interesting challenge to take a picture of a stranger that feels simultaneously intimate and yet not too intrusive for public consumption. https://t.co/1wWQ6iTzYu

/ A post in which I manage to articulate my somewhat distant, estranged relationship(s) with religion over the years. It's not something I thought I cared about much, and yet somehow it's quite revealing about who I am https://t.co/pw1Xx3fZ9D

/ Something to pair with the above – me contemplating the contrast between religious architecture and modern-capitalist architecture. I realize that I feel compelled to create art in this space – an Indian cyberpunk aesthetic of sorts. Gorgeous in my head https://t.co/XXWfaYl3it

/ I've been thinking about "safe spaces" a lot this year. The TLDR is – safe spaces are ideally nurturing spaces, not coddling spaces. They're dojos and gyms, not comfort zones. If Earth wasn't a safe space (the sun is a deadly laser!), we'd all be dead. https://t.co/OynOHoyE1r

/ This is a single riff on cultural appropriation, but it's something I want to say more about. The idea here is: cultural appropriation IS a thing, but it's a very nuanced, context-dependent thing. Not all cultural exchange is appropriation. Be mindful https://t.co/FyOOCqjViW

/ This is about oscillation – (I suppose Taleb fans might think of it as "barbell" variation). The idea here is that, in my experience, it's seems necessary to oscillate between extremes (intense emotion <> zen calm) before I can find my 'happy medium' https://t.co/dGDWk7dYL9

/ This is a post about a very subtle form of insult – where you use a normally-innocent word ("woman", "indian") and dog-whistle negative connotations by using a venomous intonation. It's tough to defend against bc of the plausible deniability baked in https://t.co/QxVIZ5nS54
