I have a private FB group called "VV's melancholy and sadposting friends". People there talk about watching their exes get married, watching their parents grow old and die, about feeling lost, afraid, uncertain about work, dealing with divorce, alcoholism, depression
And these are some of the most well-adjusted, high-functioning people I know. Which means I can say with absolute certainty that the majority of people on the planet are dealing with all sorts of pain and bullshit that they don't feel like they can tell anybody about

If you're five bourbons deep with a friend, and you're talking about politics... is that really the best use of your joint inebriation? The smart, utilitarian thing to do is to use every drunken moment to compassionately learn about each other's personal histories and hurts
It's the Jackie Chan thing again – this is what life is about. It's very nourishing to have a distributed network of personal histories and hurts, people caring for one another.
