Story idea: A spy thriller where global warming begins to happen at an incredibly accelerated rate over 2-3 years. Geopolitical clusterfuck
Everybody suspects Russia, because they seem to have the most to gain. Our protagonist is an investigative journalist or cop, of course
Some world leader gets assassinated. Water levels rise. Doomsday prophets. Military tensions at high alert. Speculation, panic, hysteria
At some point our hero gets invited to meet Elon Musk, who presumably has a plan to solve the problem. And of course... he's responsible
Elon's frustrated with humanity's volatility and slow progress, and decides to speed things up. (Hand-wavy stuff about volcanos, drilling)
The protagonist is actually completely convinced by Elon's argument. Manufactured, controlled crisis allows for decisive action to be taken
But we need some tension. The protagonist's partner is horrified that Elon would do such a thing, and leaks the information to the public
(At this point, around 2030-ish, Elon is already shuttling to-and-fro Earth and Mars, and a Martian colony is being established)
