@beckycliffe06 Can you recommend any studies on sloth pee and it's relationship to the territory habits? I have a strange hunch.

@beckycliffe06 I think algea in fur is a red herring - actual reason for it is they pee on themselves and high ammonia is like how lions signal territory?

@beckycliffe06 Or at least its' a contributing factor. I read that some species have 11-1 female to male ratio: structure sounds like a pride of lions.

@beckycliffe06 If sloths are slow, the effects that lead to male lions to mark large territory might scale too. "large" becomes relative to travel speed?

@beckycliffe06 The hair adaptation that 'catches' algae might actually be a surface area thing that helps them spread their scent?

@beckycliffe06 And so ecosystem on their back actually helps get rid of the clogging algea their high ammonia pee causes. Leads to better mate signaling.

@beckycliffe06 If... they are attracted to urea/amonia smells it would also explain this strange thing I found: https://t.co/VdPgBEK7Q2

@beckycliffe06 I don't know why it's not more obvious: "you will reek of urine" https://t.co/cQvxAPHO9Z - It makes sense as a long distance communication.
