"Listen to users": NonagumentLarge % of users I analyze on twitter follow indiscriminately, or follow a handful due to info overload.
There are better augments against defaulting to algorithmic feeds vs "listen to me". You end up a vocal minority & set stage to be ignored.
Real agument is network effect: "I don't want to lose relationships/social environment we've been building/curating under current paradigm."
Twitter is too many things for many people. As a flexible platform, the communities use it how they see fit. Argument is about acclimation.
It's unfortunate: any change is going to break the way we use Twitter. But stagnating with fewer incoming users means community dies as well
I don't think algorithmic feed is the answer, but I'd prefer they try something and break it over doing nothing and losing entire ecosystem.
Weekend twitter: People on here to hang out & community takes stage. Discussion will shift during workweek when people use it to kill time.
Not everyone has time to read the entire timeline. 9to5ers who use it as RSS feed will like change to algorithm. They are bulk of users.
