I think I get annoyed by people who harp on flying cars and hoverboards because they seem to misunderstand and misrepresent how things work
A fixation on personal mobility devices (jetpacks, hoverboards) is an extrapolation of motorbikes + open road = freedom (just add gadgetry)
But the nature and circumstances of "freedom" has changed; our mental models are lagging behind. What are we actually encumbered by today?
The real flying car / hoverboard / jetpack of 2020 will be a tool that helps you navigate information overload, not physical space
