there is one developmental assignment that comes before all others: you need to navigate to a social context where you are reminded every day that you are good, you are of benefit to others. I cannot stress this highly enough.

development is vulnerable because you have to look your weaknesses square in the eye. it is normal and healthy to require encouragement from external sources. 100 years of individualist propaganda does not change this.

your opinions count. your jokes are funny. your insights are interesting. you have talents: some things that are hard for others are easy for you. your contribution matters you are not expected to generate this knowledge from some inner source all day, you deserve encouragement

every day! every day! you should be reminded all the time! you should not be able to go 12 hours without someone reminding you that you are good! not “good” in some vague philosophical way. practically, concretely: you are of benefit to other people! you make a difference

why do you think people suddenly have an enormous glow-up after a few days at vibecamp or casa tilo or jesscamp??? because they suddenly got a huge spike in encouragement from external sources. this is a return to normal healthy baseline. it is your daily nutritional dose!

"individual" is a psyop. you are a mammal. you are a herd creature. your boundaries are porous. your nervous system is designed for mesh networking https://t.co/rtnPROJi25

@impactology in your chest there is a sensor that points you towards the right people. look for meetups of exceptionally high openness people. start the positive feedback loop wherever you can and keep getting more discerning as you get more motivation

@RichDecibels Seems like this has been completely wiped out. Families of your own would work for this, social groups don’t meet everyday, and work is largely remote or hybrid so the office is desolate. We need wide spread “put the phone down” propaganda for this to come back in scale.

@RichDecibels Sounds like the third pillar of Daniel P Brown’s approach to attachment disorders. Also sounds like a potentially huge and impossible step though one that would likely be incredibly valuable

@RichDecibels Agreed. What do you think about this in terms of Elon Musk? it seems he's got this kind of social context...but it's not totally healthy for him (although maybe im wrong about that)
