genetics is a factor for cancer all dog breeds are inbred because of AKC rules thereās a straight line there. this isnāt even the worst offender - all the smooshed face (brachycephalic) dogs canāt breathe, and some canāt be born save for C sections. and the Cavalier Spanielās skulls is too small for itās brain.

Quite a few things could be contributing to this. Bad breeding of course, but also diet people used to feed their dogs table scraps, which meant they got way better quality food than kibble or even those dog food meats you can buy. Environmental hazards could also be causing this, giving us all cancer. People get cancer diagnosed earlier and likely make a decision to end a dog's life far before the dog would have ever actually experienced suffering. Something similar has happened in people where the number of years someone has lived with cancer has gone up, more so because it is detected earlier rather than treatment increasing length of time lived (different based on type of cancer.)
