Yeah also the director Brad Bird (who I had the pleasure to work with last year) directed the movie because of a similar case in his family unfortunately 😕. His sister was killed tragically (you can read about it). The reason he wanted to make the movie was because he was thinking about "what if a weapon was conscious and didn't want to be used as a weapon".

@QiaochuYuan The book is also so different from the movie it has little relationship with the latter other than the initial premise. In the book the Iron Giant performs a series of mythic challenges to dissuade a giant space dragon from destroying the world.
