my Vietnamese mom said stuff like this when i talked about ADHD, then she read about ADHD symptoms in undiagnosed adult women, started taking medication, then cried about how she'd missed out on being normal her whole life.

u can trace ADHD back through our entire family tree as well, pre-1900s when we were on farms. this meme that ADHD is some American middle class white boy hysteria just doesn't make any sense when you have people w the same symptoms, in completely different contexts, globally

like ok, it's valid to say some demographics are getting overdiagnosed for cultural reasons or social incentives, but the vast majority of ADHD cases are undiagnosed. that's the nature of misdiagnosis in generally.

@menhguin Stimulants make people feel good, but that doesn't mean unmedicated people have a disorder.

@menhguin wow, another story about someone taking prescription dextroamphetamine for the first time and then having a euphoric emotional reaction where they declare ā€œoh this must be what normal feels like!!ā€

@egirlian once again, this does not actually happen to people with ADHD, and has been brought up multiple times ITT. it would have taken you all of 10 seconds to not look like a dumbass. https://t.co/eyZ2bWA6UR

@acymetric There's like dozens of replies across this thread and links to studies about how people with ADHD don't actually feel good taking stimulants. Maybe if you had taken the time to read any of them or been informed about the topic in any meaningful way, but alas, here we are.

@menhguin I would like to poke my head into universes in which my brother received stimulant treatment for ADHD to see if he'd nonetheless continue ending up in cycles of incarceration and drug abuse.

@mindswimai ADHD is like wildly overrepresentd wrt substance abuse and incarceration. Idk about your bro but untreated ADHD prolly contributes.
