interesting and disqueting question to ask what % of the population is now below the ā€œwhispering earring line,ā€ ie would be better off letting gpt make all of their decisions for them

@QiaochuYuan Interesting modern phenomena: NPC gatherings that are coded (i.e. bridal party) will often result in several people bringing the exact same gift because it's the first search result.

@QiaochuYuan I'm not sure chatgpt always chooses what makes you the happiest, and if the earring always does that, im not sure how bad it is. It seems that infinite happiness loops back to more difficult at one point, and not just the easiest or smartest option.

@QiaochuYuan I'm amazed at how difficult it is for some people to make basic decisions, like buying a t-shirt or choosing a hotel. With basic experience you should be able to look at 4/5 options and decide in a few minutes.

@QiaochuYuan Important point is the people most likely to benefit from GPT making their decisions would likely also struggle to even articulate the questions in their lives.

@QiaochuYuan Idk, probably decently high. The main issue would be the impracticability of asking it for literally every decision. If you keep it to just the top 20 or so major decisions of the day, I'd say maybe 30-60%? People make really bad decisions all the time.

@QiaochuYuan This isn't a useful question because they would still need to decide what decisions to make.

@QiaochuYuan I’d say almost everyone. But executing on those decisions is the hard part (motivation, etc).

@QiaochuYuan They don’t need the earring they need to flounder until they figure out what water bottle they like.
