4yo: It’s really clean in here, did someone clean? me: Me 4yo: When?? me: Late at night. I did the dishes, swept the dining room, and straightened the living room, as I do every night. And, though I was tired and sick, it made me happy to clean. 4yo: 4yo: I want to clean

The cleanliness level of these spaces was average for the morning, so it’s interesting that she noticed it. Possibly we slacked last week because *everyone* was sick. Also possible she just decided to notice.

The third way between “you Must do chores because I said so” and “doing chores is FUN :))))))” is to quietly take pleasure in the routines that maintain your chosen life, and to convey that to your children with modeling, strategic limit setting, and a small number of words

Btw I think I only succeed at this like 30% at most relative to what’s possible but it’s enough and it matters

@faraz_r_khan My children by and large consider “work” to be a sacred and protected class of activities, which they got from Montessori

@mbateman my 2yo is obsessed with doing laundry. if there is a single piece of dirty laundry to be found in the house, it goes in the washer, and he tries to turn it on.
