6/ Complete lack of credibility, or any trace of sound reasoning. The study does not mention “oils” “cooking oils” or “plant oils” even once, it does mention “the western diet” once, and mentions Linoleic Acid and Arachidonic Acid, but all in the introduction, where the authors do not explain the differences between the two and just refer to studies showing that Omega3/Omega6 balance. Ironically, the authors of the misquoted paper do cite a paper that failed to show any correlation between Omega-6 fat acid intake and the risk of colon cancer in a cohort of 99,080 female and male patients (4) In light of this facts, the Daily Mail article goes beyond bad science reporting towards complete lack of credibility, since authors have apparently misrepresented a peer-reviewed article without bothering to go though it or check its references.
