@BLUNDERBUSSTED Promote butyrate in the gut to reboot lipid absorption so you don't need to trick your body's metabolism into think it's fed.https://t.co/jbJk14TqPU

@SmurfAc1717 @mmt_lvt The big thing it changed was ability to shift gears without dealing with task switching overhead, allowing me to be more intentionally focused. As some evidence, I wrote that bluesky one to 100+ post long almost non-stop with little issue. https://t.co/oFuGihjGmm

@BLUNDERBUSSTED Non-stimulant adhd drugs like Dexmedetomidine do this indirectly by reshaping gut health.https://t.co/VGhBgHhkJT

@BLUNDERBUSSTED They are mostly Ξ±2-adrenergic agonists. They are not very common and have their own set of weird side effects. But work differently from the standard stimulating drugs.https://t.co/f1F9syyKUO

@BLUNDERBUSSTED Risperidone/Risperdal has also been used in people with ADHD+Bipolar. That one also seems to impact butyrate. https://t.co/e95Rzf91xzhttps://t.co/RBprJzHq0b

risperidone literally increases the levels of butyrate..."Increased serum levels of butyric acid might be associated with a favorable treatment response in drug-naΓ―ve, first episode schizophrenia. The clinical implications of our findings were discussed"https://t.co/6cxpdm6FcH

@BLUNDERBUSSTED Lithium can possibly be used too, but the research on it is slim."To our knowledge, the efficacy of lithium to treat adult ADHD has not been empirically examined in a controlled study." [2002] https://t.co/S4e9aQAr3ihttps://t.co/5fezSJlJuM

@davidmanheim @Mithreu @slatestarcodex @Aella_Girl He mentions bipolar in that. It's fascinating. One of the reasons why Lithium seems to help people with BIpolar is thru a mechanism that butyrate can also address, and it may even promote butyrate production.https://t.co/iGPd3RczhM

@BLUNDERBUSSTED There's also some work done to explore lithium for autism. Given the overlap between ADHD/Autism/bipolar, it may be worth talking with a doctor about it.https://t.co/PmHBVO2U5Y

@BLUNDERBUSSTED gonna be a few years until we start seeing gut health studies, but..."To date, only one case report showed a 22-year-old woman undergoing FMT primarily to treat recurrent Clostridioides difficile infection achieved ADHD symptoms alleviation." https://t.co/sLfmdG0exR

@BLUNDERBUSSTED This is the case report btw. This was published 11 months after I did my own FMT that absolved my symptoms. https://t.co/0z9UgYfuMV

@BLUNDERBUSSTED I've also seen good results with cannabis being use to calm anxiety in people with ADHD and that seems to help. Interestingly, one of the Ξ±2-adrenergic agonists helps with withdrawal symptoms. https://t.co/Z26212p4o0

@BLUNDERBUSSTED Medical Cannabis for ADHD is a thing in Canada IIRC. Tho you'll have to spend some time to find a strain that you can dose well and doesn't just make you stoned.

@BLUNDERBUSSTED Interestingly cannabis promotes a species of bacteria called akkermancia muciniphila that helps butyrate levels.

@BLUNDERBUSSTED Also studies on endogenous cannabinoids shows "AEA treatment was associated with increased levels of beneficial bacteria producing SCFAs, such as butyrate, which play a crucial role in gut health" https://t.co/zbEq2yEQTK

@BLUNDERBUSSTED Natural production of Anandamide (AEA) is low in many autistics / adhd types. This is basically acting like THC.

@BLUNDERBUSSTED Ergo, fixing gut health to promote lipid digestion (upstream of these endocananbinoids) and anti-inflammatory butyrate should help.https://t.co/cOM17WJtQ1

@ver_kat @Urbion6 @AnotherPattern Or more specifically, lipid digestion tied to anandamide production (Fatty acids) and immune system being fed properly on ketones.Did you know if you put adhd people's poop in a mice, the mice seems to get adhd?https://t.co/CHZGLkyBLx

@BLUNDERBUSSTED Another endocannabinoid that might help in that space is PEA or "Palmitoylethanolamide" which loosely speaking seems to enhance AEA's effects so you need less. https://t.co/ichG42liWo

Placeholder
UltimApe@ultimapeβ€’ over 3 years ago

"The findings suggest that PEA may augment therapeutic effects of risperidone on autism-related irritability and hyperactivity. Future studies are warranted to investigate whether PEA can serve as a stand-alone treatment for autism." https://t.co/qSGx6CKTiZ

@BLUNDERBUSSTED I personally chose to avoid many of these and just experiment directly with gut health shifts targeting an ecosystem to support akkermancia muciniphila. https://t.co/uaeJRZrudg

"with either risperidone or olanzapine had altered levels of Lachnospiraceae, Akkermansia, and Sutterella compared to controls [135]. A systematic review highlighted the limited evidence [...] More research will be needed" [2020] https://t.co/i08BgSAoDJ https://t.co/rvyjXEjeqJ

@BLUNDERBUSSTED interestingly, my life long sleep problem went away after doing the FMT! Butyrate helps with sleep and that was the main thing I wanted to get running well in my gut.

@BLUNDERBUSSTED I've heard people with ADHD have good results with kefir. It may be thru improved gut health factors tied to this space. Interestingly, it also seems to provide a sugar that akkermancia muciniphila species absolutely loves. https://t.co/Qbb3yCf8dZ

@BLUNDERBUSSTED It's hard to give direct recomendations as 1) i'm not a doctor and 2) much of what worked for me was very specific to my gut health issues. That being said, there is some promising stuff out there being done looking at fiber/diet changes that might help. https://t.co/bTRnFeGhjN

@BLUNDERBUSSTED This sounds similar to what I would recommend focusing on nutrient wise to promote natural dopamine synthesis and elevate natural anandamide production. The Guanafacine probably can be compensated for if the body heals the rest of the gut.https://t.co/j8hU4cOZS5

@BLUNDERBUSSTED Guanafacine does weird things to mucus, so its seems plausible to me that part of the need for an agonist may be due it compensating for some kind of lipid related inflammation causing the body not absorb them well. But its a hunch.https://t.co/HOUWSth16Z

@BLUNDERBUSSTED Guanafacine was causing my mom seizures at one point. There may be unintuitive effects depending on dosing like we see with other anti-epileptics.Suspect she was taking way too much + interacting with gabapentin/Neurontin. https://t.co/IZ1O2nbV5z
