my cofounder presented a study that showed teenagers learn better if they can sleep in a little more, and the school came back with “well we can’t adjust it now, we have a contract with the bus drivers” oh, so the school is for the benefit of the bus drivers?? much like the port is for the benefit of the longshoremen, and the polity is for the benefit of the politicians, eh?

@DanielleFong I've heard of at least one school that took this seriously, but found they couldn't change it because of pervasive cultural constraints— sports leagues became untenable, parents' and teachers' schedules became untenable. basically all of society would have to switch at once




tbh i think teenagers are running a millennia optimized biological program growing their bodies and brains before their forebrain matures. it's not just about willpower. society has had much longer to optimize itself than any teenager has had time to squeeze themselves in this ill fitting box.
