Every time I see a beautiful view with massive floor-to-ceiling windows that flaunts itself constantly, it reminds me of the Zen View pattern from A Pattern Language. I remember how after 6 months with a floor-to-ceiling view of the bay it became invisible to me. https://t.co/g6PyZm96An

@eshear For what it's worth we have a great view of the NYC skyline and still marvel at it all the time. My wife and I pointed out interesting clouds today, and my daughter and I talked about how different places are different cities.

@eshear View in front of kitchen sink is wonderful and never seemed to get old for me. Since the task was mindless it was easy to appreciate the view in that context.

@justinpoir A view in front of the sink is nearly essential IMO. Not because that view will “pop”, but because gazing into nature is wonderful and that’s a good place to do it.

@eshear I have floor-to-ceiling windows in my 2nd floor living room mostly showing the crown of the tulip tree in my garden and it's still quite wonderful to me after 5 years. I feel a bit like living in a tree house. Maybe it will become invisible once, but 6 months seems a bit quick.

@Adele_Quested Invisible is an exaggeration. I still looked out the window and enjoyed the bay. But it was an *incredible* view, and it turned into a window.

@eshear I have floor to ceiling windows in my apartment, and I've lived here for 4 years. Definitely not invisible yet

@pritishag12 It’s not literally invisible, I’m being a little poetic with words.

@eshear Does it become invisible, a no-op? Or does it become absorbed into your psyche, making your existence itself that much more beautiful? I'm honestly not sure.

@jasoncrawford I think it’s mostly wasted. Like eating very complex 15 course meals all the time. You’re not paying attention.

@eshear An entire wall of my apartment is 10 ft floor to ceiling glass windows and sliding doors. The view of the city never gets old. Last night I watched a sunset with beautiful colors, and a few nights before that I watched a thunderstorm roll by. Not sure what you’re on about

@_oyoma There is a pop, a wow, and arresting of your attention that goes away. I agree that gazing out on a view can reward long study and be rewarding in its own view for years as well, but surely you know what I’m talking about.
