You *get paid* to do a PhD in the US. It’s a pittance, so the cost is the opportunity cost of working in a higher paying job. But the actual dollar cost is negative. You do not go into debt! Somehow this myth persists. https://t.co/mSeip5BicA

I still cannot believe I got paid 20k/year to study with world experts for 6 years. What a deal.

Yes, I understand that my claim is not *universally* true. But it is normal in the US to get a stipend and have tuition completely covered. This is very different from it being normal to take on debt for tuition and COL.
